While we were there, spoke to a frenchman who has lived in Cyprus (south) for many years, who said that the people responsible for all the building works from Protraras to Ayia napa were the displaced Cypriots in 1974. That is what Famagusta could have turned out like had they have stayed.

Stayed in an apt near protraras close to the north south border. we were there from 31 Aug to 24 Sep. Could see Famagusta from our balcony. Drove to Fig tre bay one day, but couldn't faind a space on the beach, it was teaming

Hi ukturk, what interesting photos, tinged with a little sadness of what was. but on a purely selfish note so glad nc has retained its old fashioned charm and dignity the commercialism of the south does nothing to draw me , and to me is quite vulgar.please quench my curiosity ukturk , what is your position in life ? you never cease to amaze me the with all the knowledge you pocess.

kind regards simbas

hi simbas

please you are making me blush!!!!!

i dont know what it is i just love to research and get down to the core of each subject that interests me (there a lot of things that interests me) and not just one side of it because there is always two sides to a coin

i totally agree with about sucking up to tourisim ok we do need some sort of tourisim but dont complety sell out look at ayıa napa the locals there are having big problems (good l.o.l) and also the other place i live marmaris turkey

sold out their local trade and all they depend on is tourisim selling their mother if they could for a over inflated rate and now turkey are having a bad season everyone is worried so n cyprus has to be carefull not to fully sell out

Also simbas i noticed your place is in iskelle my family home town (after 74 all turks settled their from skella larnaca) one of the best towns in famagusta aswell as yeni bogazici (other family place)

if you want and littlenige also ive got loads of personal pics of in and around the ghost town actually inside the town aswell (never seen before) and pics from 74 when the turks landed and the famagusta ghost beach just post me and ill send them via email to you all

hi gail

glad you found the pics interesting, i will send you some more of my personal pics tonight by email

ok for eating my two fav resturants has to be temmer reis which is located when you first come into famagusta by the big roundabout on one side is the big mosque and on the other side is the resturant, the other is genko which is located in the castle, their are a few other resturants like terri garden and rusty pelican

for a drink there are a few bars directly opposite the uni which are great especially at the weekend and some have got live bands in them if you want a bit of a boggie try the lions garden which is on the salamis road

for sightseeing go and have a look at the salamis ruins which again is on the salamis road very historical and in famagusta old town there is the big castle, there is also famagusta ghost beach with all the old hotels on them and also ghost town which is located near the port you cant actually go in but you can see around it because there is only barbed wire that seperates it

hope this all helps

regards

erkan (ukturk)

Hi Erkan, long time no speak!

Managed to get into 2 of the sites, one was blocked by my company's filter software and another said the domain name expired.

Would you mind sending me some photos by email, as I love looking at old photos.

Also, have managed to get an extra week for my trip to NC end of month, and I'm now going to spend the second week just driving around the Famagusta/Bogaz area and stopping off at different hotels/locations each night, depending on where my fancy takes me. So will take note of your suggestions re restaurants and sights to see, etc.

Cheers, Abby

Thanks for sharing Ukturk, some of the Kyrenia harbour pics brought back many memories, some of the pics shown are about the same time I was living there , I remember the red speed boat ( the most powerful at the time), the owner was a big Casanova , if that boat could talk.

He used to pull 3-4 water skiers at one time . His famous photograph that he used to brag about was 8 people being pulled at once behind his boat.

Thanks for bringing back memories.
