Hi, I am considering to relocate to North Cyprus for a teaching position in a university. I am just wondering if anybody can give an idea of taxation and spouse/child benefits that NC offers to the tax payers.

Thanks in advance.

I think you need to be a citizen first.

Yes you do working here does not give you any rights to social services for at least ten years.

Msg.1/ I would strongly advise you to go on the official TRNC Government website before you make any plans to come over here. Taxation, work permits etc are a minefield. Unfortunately at least one of the Universities is notoriously bad in paying at the end of a month and staff frequently find themselves at least one month behind with salaries. On top of which the University at which you obtained your degree will have a bearing on which University will employ you. Unless of course you've already gone down this road and they have offered you a position?

Tango1, thanks for the advice. I have been interviewed by the university and am hoping for the offer. At present, they are saying that I will be offered about 6000 ytl p.m. (after social security and taxes). So is this amount enough to live in NC comfortably? My wife will not be working there and we have a little kid. So I am just wondering about the child and spouse allowances in NC for tax-payers.

There is information on this site regarding the TRNC Universities. Mainly from input of students and some comments from teaching staff. It makes interesting, but worrying reading.

However it may well help you decide which are the "better" universities.
