Hi folks,

I just moved to the Kyrenia area after getting an offer to teach. I flew into Lefkosa from Istanbul and went through immigration. Having not done my homework, I thoughtlessly gave the passport (USA passport) to the guard who put a TRNC stamp inside the passport without asking me if I wanted the stamp on a separate piece of paper. Since then, my girlfriend read in a lonely planet guide that I can't cross into the south with this stamp inside my passport.

Is this true? Are they very serious about this restriction for those trying to go south? Any help would be very useful.

Thanks!

-Dustin

I didn't have a problem with around 20 Turkish visa stamps in my passport.

Do not worry, we who live here have residency stamps in our passports, they take a whole page. I personally have travelled to many places. I always have my passport stamped when re rentering the TRNC by plane from anywhere.

We have just returned over the border having taken a friend to Larnaca airport.

Scare mongering.

Fantastic... I appreciate the shared experiences, everyone. I had a feeling that the book was exaggerating, but it is nice to have some confirmation. I feel much better now!

Dnorto13 - American Passport not EU passport - it is possible that they will give trouble when crossing sorry to say so - might be worth talking with your embassy.

Most members have an EU passport so do not have your potential problem

Pugwash..

I beg to differ.. folks with Russian / Ukrainian passports trying to cross 'N-S' - having entered via 'TRNC' - will almost CERTAINLY be turned back ..

ErolZ' partner is from NZ and hasn't had an issue... it ENTIRELY depends on the official...

MY advice if you've NOT got a RoC visa - cross at a busy time at Ledra Palace / Ledra with EU citizens and be ready to flash a bunch of EU passports - you'd probably 'breeze' through..

Don't worry about it, you won't have any problems at the crossing. An American friend was here for 2+ years and flew in and out through both Ercan and Larnaca plus crossing between North and South numerous times. Nothing was ever said on either side.

We are travelling from New Zealand to Cyprus and would like clear info re border crossing locations . I am familiar with Nicosia but is there a crossing in the North so you can drive from Kyrenia, or Vouni across to Polis & Lacthi

There is a crossing about 5 miles from Vouni on the coast road that takes you along the coast to Polis. Just follow the signs.
