Does anyone know where I can get some buttermilk and what is it's Turkish name. I used goggle translate and it says Ayran = buttermilk but a Turkish friend said that Ayran was yogurt.

carndi I have never been able to find anything like buttermilk here and yes you are right ayran is a yoghurt drink. Depending what you need it for you can make a substitute, Milk (just under one cup) 1 Tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice Preparation: 1. Place a Tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice in a liquid measuring cup. 2. Add enough milk to bring the liquid up to the one-cup line.

3. Let stand for five minute. Then, use as much as your recipe calls for.
