Was relatively painless, for a change. Got there at 6.45, 3rd in queue but even at 8am there were less than 20 people waiting, mostly ex-pats - Ramazan effect? Tickets were handed out according to the list and they even kept hold of our paperwork while we went for our blood tests. All done and dusted by 9.15.

Could the lady who was 1st in the queue contact me via email eileen.croucher@gmail.com? - I have something belonging to her.

Hi come on aylin, have decided to do our residency early this year, got caught out last year with the change regarding the blood test (we were there the same day as you and like you could have done it earlier). Please can you give us directions to the Lab as believe it can be reached from the back of the police station which saves time. Last year we used one farther away which meant we had to come back the following day.

Many thanks - Boerboel

Paperwork required yesterday: Photocopies of passport photo and previous residency stamp pages; original letter from Muhtar should have 2 signatures; bank statement; photocopy of white visa slip stamped when you visit South, if appl; blue/pink book issued by immigration; photocopy of marriage certificate, if appl; photocopy of sales/rental contract including original kocan or kocan. Don't forget to take originals of any photocopied items, i.e. passport, contract, etc. Think that's it.

Found a very quick way to lab yesterday - drive into Police Station car park and turn left at the end of the police station building, this opens out into another car park (entry to immigration part of building on your left). Lots of shade here, so good place to park. If you drive straight you will see blue EXIT sign pointing right, follow this and it takes you past the MOT station (bit of a wiggle), at the end of the road turn left and UNILAB is near to the main road on left hand side. 80TL for test

Hi, thanks for your reply. As you say good place to park in shade in second car park (where we all had to sit last year while others jumped the queue!!) did you leave car in car park and walk? or is there parking in the road where UNILAB is?

We had parked in the visitor's car park initially and went a slightly longer route to the lab, it was only when we got there that we realised the Police hadn't given us both passports back - doh! We had to go back to take the receipts, get the passport and take it back to the lab for photocopying - this is when we found the shorter route. Moral of the story is make sure the Police hand back your passport. There's always something that trips us up.

There was a Turkish women in tears because they hadn't given her passport back last week and they couldn't seem to find it.

You can park on the road just outside the lab or in the shade in front of an apartment block just down the road from the lab.

msg 3; Hi come on aylin, have decided to do our residency early this year, .............................

boerbel, unless the situation has changed since last year, doing it early isn't an option.

We went to immigration for our stamp and was told to come back on the date the current one ran out.

I think we went on a Wednesday and had to go back on the Friday.

They state that you can do it 30 days in advance - we did ours exactly 1 month(31 days) before expiry this year without problem.

We have been assured by a friend's neighbour who is a serving policeman that once you are over 60 you do not need to obtain residency any more but you can of course chose to do it voluntarily. Has anyone else heard this because of course they would not publicise it because they like to take the money.

Msg.12 - The number for UNILAB is 0392 815 87 47 or 0533 844 68 69 and the price we paid on Monday of this week was 80TL.

As with msg.1 we arrived at 6.45 and were second in the queue. They started to see people at 8.20 but only one policeman doing paperwork to start with, however, paperwork checked, given slip for blood test, off to UNILAB, blood done, back with receipt, all done and dusted by 8.50. Never been seen and out in such a record time before hope it continues

We used Erdener lab ( might not have spelt that right) just below HSBC 1st turning on your right 70tl.

At the police station they did'nt need visa from going South - that's a new one on me - but all other docs. mentioned were needed, they also told friends of ours that they needed a Turkish bank account and actually gave me all the paperwork relating to my UK bank back to me and just kept the Iktisatbank paperwork. Ken did 2 years last year ( being an oldie) but they wanted to know where he was!!!!!!! Hope this helps........ Lizzie

It's all rather misleading ,we(ex-pats) call it "Residency" where as in fact it is a one or two year "Visitor Visa"...not quite the same thing is it?

Does anyone have the phone number for the Lecosia office?

Apparantly you can call to see if your residency is ready for collection.

Messages 10 and 11: although things do change here by the day, at the time when I went (July) they didn't give a rat's arse about the stupid white bits of visa paper. They have never asked me about these and frankly, when they are full up, they normally toss them in the bin at the customs post at the border! Don't bother about ins and outs and definitely don't encourage them to ask for any more bits of paper!

Msg. 10 and 11. I agree with Msg. 19 about White Visa slips. They are really only needed for the actual trip you make i.e.1 stamp out and 1 stamp in. You can have a new one each time you go down South if you feel like it. The computers will know when you went in and out.......have no fear about that!!

It would be good to have ratification of the "no need for residency over sixty"

Msg 21 This discussion went on a few weeks ago take the chance if you want but you could risk being fined if you leave the country. No one official has given a definite answer to this. Also you do need it when you get or renew a driving license.
