We are looking for donations for a raffle to raise money to buy AED's (defibrillators) for the Lapta, Ansancak, Karsiyaka and Kaylar areas here in North Cyprus.

The raffle will be on the 9th September at the JK's end of summer ball.

You can leave a message on here or phone me on 0533 884 5621 and we can collect, alternately they can be dropped in at JK's in Lapta.

Thank you in advance.

Chris.

p.s. Not just business owners but anyone with something we can raffle or auction would be great.

I think this should be business owners on the west side, as there is a push on in the East side where it all began dont you agree

Kittyfun,

With the greatest respect surely it is up to any business to decide who and what to donate to! And yes we are all aware that Karen started this on the east side, and yes I nicked the idea. And I did state in message 1 which areas the AED's were for.

Kittyfun surely 'all's fair in love, war & defibrillators' We all need them - supposing someone was to visit west to East or East to West - if the need arose the AED could be put to use regardless of which side they came from. The last thing we need is an 'us & them' scenario! we're all in this together.

By the way a lot of us are still awaiting your reply as to where exactly the AED is tha you say is already in the Lapta area???

message7,

Jetski I would doubt if health professionals did not know how to use a defib! But will be interested to find out if there really is one at the clinic.

Good luck you 'Westies' - the more defibs available, the greater the chance of early defibrillation, and subsequently the better chance somebodys' life will be saved. Keep up the good work.

Chris, you have probably read that (Pearl) in conjunction with the Kemal Saraçoğlu Foundation fund raising team (Maureen and Peter Fellows, Art and Mary Watson, Paul and Marilyn Lee), helped to raise 5,500 TL which was divided between two very good causes (the Kemal Saraçoğlu foundation and the Defibrillator' appeal for Esentepe, Bahceli, Tatlisu) - there are more events to come on the Eastern side - (Wednesday 7th September, King's Bar - Esentepe, Saturday 10th September, Tumba Restaurant - Esentepe) and then the team will be focusing their efforts on the event taking plcae on Saturday 17th September at The Black Olive Cafe.

I believe that the Kemal Saraçoğlu' fund-raising team has already made arrangements with Vicki to use the event to raise money for the two very worthy causes and I don't see why the event on the 17th September at the Black Olive Cafe shouldn't be as successful as the others in terms of fund-raising for the two very woethy causes.

(couple of typo's *place and worthy, sorry)

Pearl has helped to raise funds for all types of charities, but our particular favourite is the Kemal Saracoglu foundation and that is why we work extensively for them. That being said, the defibrillator appeal is another cause that is 'close to hearts' (pun intended) and we ask the people of Alsancak, Esentepe, Karsiyaka and Kayalar to support this cause by attending the event on the 17th September and having a flippin' good night out, courtesy of Pearl, who perform un-paid (other venues that are interested in holding a fund-raising event should contact Art Watson - 0533 861 4873)

If you do want to attend however, don't forget, get your hands down the back of the sofa and collect all the loose change that is down there and bring it along - you'll need it !

I hope that you don't mind me hijacking your thread with this news, but it is related to the theme of the thread.

Paul,

I am sure Chris won't mind you hijacking this thread as long as you & your supporters on the Eastern side pop over to support her efforts on 9th September at the JK's end of summer ball!

So many good causes & so little money!!!

Paul, messages 22 / 24

I am a wee bit confused by your message, are they raising money for the Esentepe defibrillator appeal at the Black Olive on the 19th?

Anyway whatever, you and the guys are doing a great job. Will see you on the 19th.

MESS 22

Can you please check your amounts they dont seem to tally with other accounts ? it seems more like 3000tl raised between both charities on the night, there was an anonymous donation that the organisers of the defib appeal were aware of before thew event at Stevies, just so as not to muddy the waters you understand, I just read it on the other board from karen but of course could be wrong, but it was a great effort however much was raised

Chris, the 17th September gig at the Black Olive Cafe is to benefit the Lapta Defibrillator appeal and the Kemal Saracoglu Foundation - split evenly.

hodgeliz...well, I know that members have 'moaned' about fund-raisers who declare 'less' than they have raised, but this must be a first, someone attempting to 'reduce' the figure that was raised.

For clarity, when Art and Mary Watson were at Stevie's bar on the Sunday before the gig, negotiating with Stevie, they were telling someone about the up-coming event and they made a donation on the spot so, total raised (revised as another 120TL was collected from Stevie today) - 5663 TL

Hi Chris

We will be over next week and are more than willing to make a donation or provide a raffle prize. It would give us an opportunity to repay you for setting up the medical tests last year which proved essential.

One very good turn deserves another.
