Here is an article from the BBC website shedding light on racism in society. The Genetic distribution figures make most interesting reading. Analysis of black athletes even more interesting reading. However the experiment carried out by couple of economists to test racism in America is most revealing. It is reassuring that no matter how much we educate people and no matter how much information is available to them, people are still racist as they have ever been.



When will mankind and womankind wake up to this fact. And actually correct it.

Since it's part of human nature it will always be a problem to some degree. There is a range of racial, religeous and other intolerances, the grossest forms of which can be controlled through legislation but it cannot be wiped out completely.

It's part of the dynamic of life. Accept it and try to minimise the consequences. On the other hand, in some things we can be too tolerant and get taken advantage of.

People are insecure - they congregate together in "extended family" groups -anyone who is different - different facial features, skin colour etc. is considered suspect and potentially dangerous. Education and greater worldwide communications may help in time - probably several generations - with current prejudices, eg against "black" skins.



But look at how even a very small community, such as the expat community here in N. Cyprus forms into cliques and excludes and ignores the interests of anyone who dares to be different and has different tastes, interests or wants a different lifestyle.

Strange how we talk about how awful it is to be prejudiced against Black, Yellow and Red skins, but hardly ever consider the "Historically well earned" prejudices they hold against us Caucasians......

forgot to mention, i used larnaca for the first time, and was very disappointed n annoyed at a rude pilot. as we were comin in to land at larnaca,over the tannoidthingy, he welcomed the mostly british n greek pasengers to cyprus then went on to add that below us, during the war thousands of greek INNOCENT AWOMEN N CHILDREN were slaughtered n murdered by the turkish, then went on to add 'oh well, have a nice holiday'!!!

that is the attitude of a professional pilot, so all thoses brits went off that plane thinkin it was a one way battle against the poor greeks, then theyl go home n tell more, n so the predujice grows. amazing

racism; hostile attitude or behaviour to members of other races, based on a belief in the innate superiority of one's own race. CED



Why do we always assume it is whites against blacks?

Eventually we will all learn to accept the fact that we are all the same, just of a different complexion.

Can you say what airline this was, please? I am guessing it was a scheduled service... if it was charter airline you'd have a better chance of having a complaint dealt with.



Back in 2003 took a CY Airways flight to Athens.. the pilot allowed a youth ( who several passengers had noted had been acting suspiciously ) up onto the fight deck before take off...





When we complained and asked for the pilot's name - WE were asked for our names ))

Racism always existed and will exist (unfortunately)! It is not an inherited characteristic but as long as there are different countries and cultures with borders, and there exists those who will not show respect to those countries' cultures, many locals will feel threatened and eventually develop racist attributes. The same goes for when a different culture/race increasingly becomes more in numbers, exercising their own ways rather than locals', where some locals will feel it is a threat to their own existence!

It is same in UK, Germany, France, etc. even in TRNC!

You only have to read the 'jokes' section of this website and see that racism is alive and well and openly practised by a (thankfully) small number of ex-pats. They will of course respond by the usual 'get a life', 'it's only a joke' or 'my black / pakistani mate told me it' etc.

it was cyprus airways, from heathrow to london this july. i was stunned.there were about 2 turkish couple on board.dont know if they spoke english, but how awful for them.i doubt if i will use them again.it was his attitude..like 'they killed thousands', then an 'oh well' sarcastic tone.asshole

i belive this to be teaching of racisim, hate the untruth, as the truth hurts and the truth could never be taught on the south as the youngsters will then realise what a load of lies they have been told over the years, the youth have been blinkered to beliving that the turks just came and invaded in 74 for no reason and because they wanted the island..

more greek cypriots were killed by the hands of the greeks and greek cypriots than the turks.



but you have to hand it to them they are good at propaganda and there are many uneducated and unread that are quick to belive it all. it is brain washing on the highest level. if you keep pumping the brain at a young age it will not know anything else but what it has been taught, it will be the truth according to teaching belived regardless of the actual truth.

i dont know if it makes sence but its the only way i can explain it..
