I came across these guidelines on a game forum. I think they apply to C44 as well: Guidelines for Being a Good Poster 1) Be polite and clear. Make some effort at using proper capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, as they all aid in communication. Keep profanity to a minimum, or avoid entirely. 2) Don’t threadjack. This means changing the topic of conversation in a thread. If you want to discuss something different, start your own thread. 3) Don’t go into threads you disagree with. If you don’t want to discuss an issue, then ignore that thread. Don’t post about how the discussion is a waste of time. Example: If people are discussing how to use Swordsmen in a thread, don’t jump into that thread to say “Swordsmen are stupid, use Archers instead.” That’s not the topic being discussed.

4) Think before you post. Before you click ‘Submit,’ take ten seconds, read over it, and decide if this is really something you want to say. If you’re unsure how to say something without crossing a line, send a message to a moderator or administrator – especially before making a post you will regret later. 5) Say something relevant when you post. If you don’t have anything new to say, don’t say anything at all. Don’t make posts just to increase your post count.

Msg 4 Oliveoil: I agree, but it isn't (possibly because the mods haven't seen it). If it goes back to the top, do you think it will get noticed?

Donaldson - I believe you have to ask Izzet if you'd like the message to be made a 'sticky'.

More boring people who think they should decide how things are run. To many rules and a site will not even function, its a public forum and people will disagree and sometimes feel offended, that's just life. Most of these rules already apply, and the mods do well with there hard job. A forum where everyone is good at spelling, where everyone agrees and your not aloud your different opinion. What's relevent to one may not be to another, perhaps the site should change it's name to hitler. The mods have got rid of the people who were only here to take the piss. With these rules this site will be so boring the mods will not even come on it.

One man's meat is another man's poison! What is boring to one is totally unacceptable to another, so I reckon the idea of being polite and not bothering to comment unless it is really necessary is a good one. Unfortunately not everyone is particularly literate, but may still wish to express something to the best of their ability. But politeness doesn't cost, does it! Great idea message 1. Oh, and I don't think you are 'boring' I think you are 'caring'! So there!

Yes i can do that , not a problem but i would have thought it would have been quicker for the person to do it themselves than go through a mod . Which thread do you want stickied ? { is that a word ?} Simbas

Guidelines for being a good poster. 1-speak your mind and feel free to have your opinion on any subject, its your right. 2-Do not say anything that may effect someones lively hood. 3-Do not use langauge that is to offensive. 4-Let the mods get on with it. 5-Make sure a good percentage of your threads are north cyprus related. 6-Now that phil baileys idiot mates are banned,he's trying to act all nice, dont have it.

(3) Dont go into threads you dont agree with?!?!?! Number 3 certainly smacks of Stalinism. Do you really want to stifle all debate on Cyprus44?? If you dont agree dont post?? Perhaps the moderators will need to be renamed the 'thought police'. Big Brother is definately watching!!!

For example. I feel all ex pats in north cyprus should pay £100 a month to stay there to help the economy. So who would just ignore this and not post, and who would not want to read a debate on it. He's right about one thing, but in his case i would give it twenty seconds before i clicked the post box.

How dare you you patronise me. Do you seriously believe that those who transgress the rules are going accept this preaching. Of course not and I'm sure that the moderators are quite able to control things ! As long as they have a good basis for action and don't use spurious reasons for editing and banning.

msg 21; take care to note the new unpublished rule: you don't have the right to post on persons personal life on a public forum ......... Simbas That's not an "unpublished rule" merely common decency towards a fellow member. I know, I have crossed this boundary, served several bans, no complaints, have learned.

@ msg 25, spider: (...) I think its a good idea if all members gave new member a nice warm welcome. (...) ▶ I think it would be a far better idea if people like you would stop being fooled by several well known cheaters on this board. You still don't understand that you are often replying to "new members" who joined previously with more than one nick name - only to start talking to themselves or start asking silly questions, only aiming to stir things up. I don't say you are stupid, but at least you are to blame for being naïve - and you have no idea about the illegal possibilities on this board Cyprus44.

Han's I do understand and know exactly what you are saying, but sometimes its nice to welcome a genuine new member ! And I do believe that the mods soon ''WHOOOOSH'' the others away I have spotted a few of late. Just this afternoon you were posting away until you were getting way too up-tight. Why bother ? 44 needs to obtain a reputation of a happy community. JMHO Spider,X

I agree with Spider, I come on the Forum and sometimes I feel I've entered a room full of argumentative teenages, unable to express themselves properly, so they resort to swearing and personal innuendo. Also C.44 sometimes comes down to being a personal tirade betweet two people. A Forum isn't the place for that. Why can't the people concerned Email each other as I and most others on the board are quite frankly, not interested Free speach is fine and totally essental (even if I don't always agree with the poster) but personal tirades against another person is not what an open forum is designed for. I also wish new contributors were welcomed by at least one Mod. I joined and not a "dicky bird". T1

It's very strange how the dynamics of the board changes , i used to greet every new member , until a certain member hinted that i was saying the same thing every time , how many ways can you say " Welcome to the forum " ? he still is a regular contributor . I wonder if he remembers , that his post had a profound affect on me . Simbas ps , i will try to find it

I think it's nice idea to welcome a new member. Well said Spider! Some people are far too cynical. You can't just tar everyone with the same brush, thinking that they have joined C44 just to cause trouble. You should judge people as you find them, Dutch Crusader. You may be surprised! Some people are actually quite nice!!! I joined C44 not that long ago and have only written a few posts but I find it really nice that people do reply to posts even when you are new. A nice 'warm welcome' would be even nicer for new members. Angela

Thank you very much MartinD41!! Much appreciated!! I wasn't speaking about myself specifically but 'new members' in general. People have been very helpful in replying to my posts as a new member and this has made me feel more than welcome. I think Spider's idea is really nice one, though. Angela

I would respectfully suggest that before sending a post people should remember that these boards can be read by anyone anywhere who has access to a computer . Think what your post says about you personally what impression it gives to the world of North Cyprus , and what people will think about your community and nationality. Some posts are helpful and friendly and some useful and informative but too many give the impression that people who live here and a mean, drunken, spiteful and argumentative lot who dont give a tinkers about literacy (and I dont mean the odd spelling mistake or typo). And (perhaps I am preaching what I dont always practice) if you feel strongly about something dont just let off steam but try to get attention by presenting your argument in a logical and ordered manner.
