Road signs seem to be one of the favorite prey for these mindless idiots, they don't move and you don't have to actually get out of the car to shoot them. Just heard them in the hills above Kayalar, I'm sure the local constabulary are strictly enforceing the 'out of bounds' areas.................. NOT !

Just thank goodness you don't live in the UK... where I believe the number of hunting days is 365!

actualy msg 2,the police truck is out around guzelyali and the area patroling the hunters. As far as 'idiots' are concerned, would you like to see a police with each hunter in order to please you? I had placed a complain that they come too near to our house/s,so I put bigger bells on my animals to disturb the birds around us.I do not agree with hunting as a hobby but each to their own.

Groucho, I lived in England for 50 years ! Hunting for 365 days ? I don't think so. Don't get hunting confussed with pest control, or as in TRNC mindless slaughter. Yorgozlu, is guzelyali Kayalar ? I don't think so, never seen a copper enforcing 'hunting' rules up here yet.

Big Mart You are right and Groucho is wrong - all shooting is banned on Christmas Day. So 365 days is only every 4 years and in other years is 364 - but I think he was closer than you.

Ok all you smart arses, the shooting season in the UK, France, USA or any other country is totally irrelevant to the mindless slaughter of all game and non-game species in the TRNC.

So as I said, don't confuse hunting with pest control, I aslo said I don't care what the regulations are in thr UK, this is about the slaughter of game and non-game in TRNC, is this a bit difficult for you to understand ?

I don't recall mindless idiots shooting indescriminately and wandering around the streets of the UK shooting wildlife. I confronted one idiot a few yards from my property in Ozankoy, asked politely not to shoot within 500m from domestic properties, his response was to shoot towards me. I advised him to go or else my BullTerrier would remove his genitals! He left stage left running.

msg 9..The difference is Gavin ,in the UK there are things to shoot. Here, they are more likely to shoot themselves, If you have ever been on an organised game shoot(which I doubt) you will know that it is highly organised...Every one has a quota and everyone has to have a DEFRA authenticated licence..Even to shoot the prolific Rabbit..Song Birds are generally not on the agenda. And the Shooting of hunting Dogs is not generally accepted..

My point was not about what they shoot... The original poster's gripe appeared to be being woken up. I was only pointing out that if you lived in the countryside in the UK you would quite likely get more frequent wake-up calls. We were often woken up by hunters racing across the fields in 4x4's shooting rabbits by the light of their headlights and this was in Berkshire on the border with Wiltshire. I was brought up in the country and took part in organised shoots, the 'sensible posts' are possibly based on some idealised view of rural Britain that many are not fortunate to experience. I know of at least two people in the UK who were killed by accident in my youth. both by members of their own family when handling unbroken weapons whilst negotiating a stile or tripping over. There are plenty of idiots with guns in the UK.

Yorg, who is your remark aimed at? Spider... keep up. The pigeon season (6 separate days of hunting started on the 28th August). Where have you been?

Re msg 14 Groucho, actually the point I was making was that guns were going off at 5.00am when it was still DARK! It was rather more the safety aspect than being woken up at that time. I too lived in the country in the UK and agree, all sorts of sounds wake you there.

What an excellent viewpoint yorgozlu, lets not change anything then, lets shoot everthing to extinction then bring back bear bateing and dog fighting, this would be a great place with no wildlfe whatsoever. Just because 'locals' do something does not make it right, do you want us all to start throwing our rubbish all over the countryside because 'locals' do ?

Message 21 Nothing is going to get shot to extinction. Certain areas of the country are never shot over - they are protected in perpetuity. The remaining areas are cycled round over the years in agreement between the government and hunting federation so that less than 1/3rd of the country is shot over each year. There are severe penalties for shooting in protected areas and the police and federation wardens patrol to enforce these rules. The hunting federation has a significant rear and release program, principally for the partridge which is the main quarry species.

Earlybird At 5am once your eyes have adjusted you can see quite well.... It's dim but it's not pitch black. If they can't see they can't hit much so I guess they actually think it's worth the ammo..... Yorg, I didn't think so but as you didn't 'aim' very well you'd never know!
