Can anyone confirm the current regs in relation to these documents - are they still valid for a 3 years period?

The MOT is every three years but you have to find out when your MOT is due (it is not due on the anniversary of your last MOT!!) from the Tax Office. your emissions test certificate will have to be renewed just prior to you getting a new MOT but otherwise for the next three years your emissions test certificate will be valid for your road tax renewal. So in short find out when your MOT is due (from the Tax office and take all of your docs with you especially your log book) get your emissions test done prior to you going to the tax office to pay for the MOT and it should be straightforward.
