It would seem sometime during the night, some little B*£$$*&d hacked my Hotmail account, I have changed my password, can anyone advise if I need to do anything else? Apart from informing all my contacts not to open the email - duly done!

Thanks

Funnily enough I had such an email this morning from my friend in the UK. It was clear that her hotmail account was hacked last night.

I had the problem last year. I found that if I sent an Email and the receiver used the reply button, then the reply went to someone who I do not know. I found that two actions were necessary. One change the password and two go into options tab and then into more options and then into reply section and ensure there are no infiltrators listed there, if there are delete. Had no problem since.

I'm 'confused' - IF your hotmail account was 'hacked' , wouldn't 'they' change your password and make it 'theirs' ?..

Could this 'hack' be a trojan that makes your account send emails to all your contacts..?

I have quite possibly used the wrong terminology, my apologies! Not entirely sure, like some, exactly how these things work!

Am I'm sorry if I came across as rude.. just make sure you have adequate anti-virus protection, that is is updated daily and your computer is scanned at night.

Thanks, having been caught out by the chenobyl virus a long time ago and with most of my work involving computers, anti-virus protection has always been top of my list.

Having said that despite an up-to-date, fully automated, fully scanned virus checker, how have my contacts been compromised?

Your comment does serve as an important reminder to anyone using computers.

re msg 10

I get LOADS of 'cr*p" messages from folk with hotmail accounts .. they are real people who simply don't know / care they are infected... One guy has been 'sending' me messages for months and I've told him twice.. he clearly hasn't done anything..:(

In the end, those that do get infected and do nought will wonder why no-one replies to their genuine emails :(

I'm sorry to say that I moved from Hotmail a LONG time ago for webmail - I use Gmail and pull Hotmail stuff via that... 95% of the cr*p is caught by Gmail and I only see what I expect to see.
