Can anyone please clarify for me the situation regarding house purchase in North Cyprus as I have been informed that if after 5 years the purchase has not been completed and deeds forthcoming then you lose all rights to the property. Any information gratefully received. Maddy

Haven't heard that one Maddy - met a man yesterday who told me his PTP took six years, he now has the Kocan so it does't sound. Lots of other reasons to lose your property rights but I don't think the example you give is right. Elko.............................

Many still don't have their deeds after 5 years or more. However It's obviously not true because the builder actually owns the property even if you have paid in full and its 2,3,4, 5 or more years. As long as he has the deeds, it's his.

many people have been waiting 15 years in south for kocan , waiting for property related documentation is not just an issue in the north.

I agree with you wholeheartedly diane62, however this is a forum for the North, most of the victims are so tired of fighting the North's problems, and although they understand the South is just as bad, most have only so much energy to give! I would tell anyone willing to listen DON'T BUY IN EITHER NORTH OR SOUTH OF CYPRUS If you value your sanity!

Maddy Our deeds took longer than 5 years and if what you say is true, then our developer could have kept the property I presume. Given the way things operate ,where builders can get away with mortgaging land that you have already paid for,if such a rule existed ,then most of the builders etc would take advantage of said rule, and we would have heard about it, You dont have rights to the property until you have the deeds anyway, but that applies to 1 year or 10 years so dont see that putting a time on it makes any difference

I don't think there are any time limits on it. Keep persevering - the delay probably means that your builder and your advocate are not working hard enough to make it happen (keep the pressure on and demand updates and action). If you find that there is still an issue with your property / or the builder is pulling a fast one at least you find this out sooner rather than later and re-target your efforts in resolving a specific issue. It's a well worn path I'm afraid that many others have experienced.

Until someone gets a grip of this madhouse don't buy, just rent. That way lies happiness and sanity, oh and enough money to buy food.

Msg 1: As Bob Dylan sang: 'If you ain't got nothin' - ya got nothin' to lose!' Apply that maxim to property acquisition in Cyprus and you won't go far wrong!
