Having looked at the current official guidance it looks as though when we move over to Northern Cyprus we are going to have to put our dog in quarantine in Nicosia and be responsible for feeding, cleaning & excercising her whilst she is there for 2-3 weeks!! As we are looking to move to W.Kyrenia is there nothing nearer?

If you are coming from uk providing the dog has an EU passport a DEFRA export licence and TRNC import licence then all you will have to do is take the paperwork and dog along to the main veterinary dept just off the main Lefkosha road, see Dr Memhet, hand over the paper work and take the dog home for 3 weeks home quarantine. At the end of this time go back to veterinary dept and get back the dogs passport for which you will be charged about the equivalent cost of its stay about 300lre if my memory serves me right. Good luck it was much easier than I worried it would be.

To import your dog into north Cyprus with the least stress to both you and your dog, is to do the following;

•Step 1 – Have your pet microchipped – Before any of the other procedures for PETS are carried out, your pet must be fitted with a microchip so it can be properly identified.

•Step 2 – Have your pet vaccinated – After the microchip has been fitted your pet must then be vaccinated against rabies. There is no exemption to this requirement, even if your pet has a current rabies vaccination before it was microchipped. Rabies boosters must be kept up to date.

•Step 3 – Arrange a blood test – After your pet has been vaccinated, it must be blood tested to make sure the vaccine has given it a satisfactory level of protection against rabies.

•Step 4 – Get PETS documentation – For animals being prepared in an EU country, you should get an EU pet passport.

cont..

Your vet can send the blood sample for Rabies Serology Test to the following labs in UK.

http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/travel/pets/pet-owners/blood-test/

Once you obtain the positive result for the Rabies Serology Test, you will need to notify Mr.Mehmet Isfendiyaroglu from the TRNC veterinary dept and give him details of your travel with date/approx time of arrival and point of entry to TRNC..You could fly to Larnaca and enter from any checkpoint to the north.

When you arrive, a vet will meet you at the point of entry and take you and the dog to Vet Dept in Nicosia.

If its within office working hours you will be given a receipt,i believe it is 120TL per dog and you can take your dog home.

If you arrive outside office working hours, you will leave your dog at the quarantine till next morning, when you can go back and pay the required sum to take your dog home.

To add a point to Iceman's very well detailed post -please note that if your dog already has had a rabies serological test clearance it must have been done within the last 12 months to be acceptable here.

there are basically 2 ways of getting your dog here, you can take it on Turkish Airways as escorted excess baggage flying from either manchester or Heathrow via Istanbul to ercan. problem can be length of time between connecting flights in Istanbul.

Your other option is a direct flight into Larnaca but most airlines will only carry as manifest cargo.

Suggest you contact either IAH (info@iah-holidays.co.uk ) who work with Ryslip animal shipping (tel 01344 424144) or Airpets (tel 01753 685571)

Can highly recommend both shippers.

i have a lot of experience re getting TRNC import licences and helping owners collect their pets from Larnaca. if you would like any futher info please feel free to contact me by email - janbosley@yahoo.co.uk

whatever good luck and safe journey for your d
