Vehicle road tax today

Went to tax my car this morning and it was quick and the young lady was polite and smiled when asking me for 781 tl.

When I got back home and was putting the vehicle papers into a folder I noticed that it was not 781tl but 780.04 tl. Overcharged by .96tl.

Beware when taxing your car.

Sometimes the amounts are rounded up and sometimes down. For me, they equal themselves out.

I have never experienced a rounding down at ANY government department office in TRNC. Also when they say "about" means "minimum"!

Tell the BRS and have it put on their web site! Start a protest group and chair a committee! Be like a local and organize a strike action for a day! Ask for a donation to be made so you are not out of pocket!

Check your paperwork and change before you leave and then deal with it on the spot - bet you always check your bill and change when you are out for a meal!



It is normal to have the end cost averaged UP in any government department but only by the amount of kurus to make it up to the next Lira. Life in the sun is worth the odd 50P.

maybe it was easier for her to explain the price to you as 781 then asking for 'yedi yüz seksen lira ve dört kuruş' and just how many places do you know that even have any change less then 10 or even 5kr

it seems the usual thing of people moaning for no reason

Think this happens to most of us at least it did to me but a bit less however 780TL is a lot of money for one years road tax nearly 2.14 TL per day even more than I pay in Germany

Sorry to say that we had exactly same thing happen to us at the Tax office. It must be a perk of the job.

I have never been anywhere else in the World where they get away with this.

Course they do Stella. Girne beledeysi round my water bill up one month, the following month I round it down, they've not complained yet, same at the leccy place.

I paid my car tax on Monday, had to go back as they were on strike in the AM. She asked for 991tl, which I gave her, the actual price was 990.25, and yeah, she did smile.

ps The same lady renewed my driving licence last week, filled the form in for me, all I did was sign it.

Didn't check if the 209.30 was correct, again, she smiled.
