Prime Minister Gordon Brown has taken time out of his busy schedule to write to the remaining X Factor finalists. Spanish finalist Ruth Lorenzo has revealed Mr Brown wrote to her praising her for ignoring Simon Cowell's advice to sing in her native language. Lorenzo said: "In the letter that the Prime Minister sent us he said 'Keep singing in English girl. You're doing a great job! Going against Simon'. Is'nt it nice to know Gordon cares!

Would be better concentrating on sorting out the mess he has made of the economy instead of poking his nose in where it doesn't belong

I suppose as he is no longer PM, gave that job to the Dark Lord, he has time on his hands!!!!! I think it is diabolical that some one of his status goes publicity seeking in such a down market scenario. Has he written to people in other show? Or more importantly does he write to people whose lives have been destroyed by his bumbling economic policies. Before somebody asks about my right to moan as I live in TRNC. Due to pension rules I have to be paid net of UK Income Tax.

There is no tax agreement with the TRNC as it "does not exist". In the ROC and many other countries you have a choice of whether to pay taxes to the UK or your country of domicile.

hilltop because we bank of shore we don't have any tax taken from our savings. would that not be a better place to have pensions paid to? i'm not a tax expert but avoiding paying it legally is an interest of mine.

Do people really not read - the banks too much borrowing and too much lending to people who cannot afford it is the cause of most of this mess. What exactly do people think that two old Etonians are going to do for the economy. Only person I hear talk any sense just now is Vince Cable and before you think it that doesnt mean I support the lberals as I equally think Nick Clegg is a non event.

FS, Sorry, as I said the rules of the pension are that it must be payed net of tax into a UK or EU bank account. If we lived in "EU" then it would be possible to make alternative arrangements. If there was a possiblility of having it paid here then I would have to pay TRNC tax and remember the full amount is taxed with no allowances as in UK. Although Tax rate here is lower if you take into account allowances there would be more tax paid, or if not, not enough to make the hassle worth while. Does that make sense?? The Offshore thing does not work either. Yes, there is no tax element on savings if living outside of EU but rules is rules!!!!!!
