We are new arrivals to the TRNC, having noted the very useful info on dentists, please advise about doctors, do we register with whom is local to us or just pitch up ?

No need to register....in fact I have never heard of anyone being registered with a doctor here. Just turn up at a clinic or hospital and ask to see someone. Appointments are not necessary, you will be seen pretty much straight away and if you need treatment/operation there is no waiting list and within a couple of days you will be sorted.

Some Doctors are better than others though. Don't just go the one that looks to have the flashiest buildings. It's better to go to an establised Dr. one who speaks fluent English and possibly more importantly one that keeps records, so that when you walk into his room, he knows when you last visited him, what you saw him for and the drugs or treatment he recommended. You'd be surprised the number of Dr's who don't do that!!

What a lot of GP's don't understand is that some drugs have contra-indications and will prescribe drugs that are potentially dangerous to a patient because they don't ask basics, re allergies or past history. One Dr. prescribed steriods to my husband. I immediately threw them away and told the Dr. he get on to his PC and Google the pro's and con's of prescribing steriods as he had absolutely no idea. Frightening really.

They are all happy to take your money! One in particular that I had the misfortune to go to. I won't mention his name but the Jasmine Casino should alert you to his whereabouts!
