Hi Mark, Are you insured/licensed for the passengers you carry? And is it ok for you to pick up at the airport without any Police harassment. Reason for asking as we are coming over in the new year and may well book you. Price to Bogaz please, return journey. Cheers, Tiggy.

All I have just joined this forrum today, and I have to say that I am absolutely disgusted with you Brits. Why on earth do you believe you can take the locals jobs away from them? This taxi business especially is appalling - do you all have insurance for transporting passengers, do you all have the appropriate licenses to operate a taxi, do you all have work permits that at least allow you to operate within a company, do you all contribute sosyal sigorta (social security) and ihtiyat (pension) payments against your income? Whilst I appreciate that things are not ideal here, and sometimes we wonder how things operate at all, and that we Europeans are indeed more organised and knowledgeable in how to make a business work, you people who come here to 'retire', but then actually make a living in this illegal way, should ashamed of yourselves. No wonder the Cypriots are becoming more and more scynical and hateful of us in general. However, if you can all say that you have business permits, pay your contributions and have cypriot business partners, then please disregard everything above.

hi HH i suppose what you say is true .i dont live there so dont shoot me just yet . without the brits there would be no economy to talk about in NC . without the brits lots of tax to the governement would not exist i suppose the other thing that could annoy people is the way price fixing and price flexing happens in some areas when a brit trys to make a purchase ...ie ripped off or tourist rates etc . im not saying it applies to all but insome areas the mentaility of ripping the brit off and not keeping the place clean could do lots of harm . after all you cant keep whipping a hungry huskie kav

Hi K, Yes I can understand and accept your points, but yes there would be an economy as there has been. Sure its due to Europeans buying up property like a worldwind the last 4 years, and yes price flexibility is certainly an issue. But, when you think that they have been under embargoes for the last 30 odd years, do you not think that there are going to be a few locals who are unable to resist the temptation to overcharge? I know its sad, but I think its important for them to learn that this is not the way to go, and that this sort of thing keeps people from coming. This doesn't mean that the Brits can step in and take their business away. There are a lot more honest locals trying to make an honest living than there are dishonest ones - all people need to do is look and find the right ones.

Kavenkoy, don't put yourselves that high on the pedestal. As Hot Hornet as said there was an economy before, might not have been perfect but it survived. Flashing the cash brings its pitfalls.

Hot Hornet Can you provide a shread of evidence that " local" taxi drivers have the correct insurance for the south side and not just the 3rd party standard insurance available at the border. I think you may have dufficulty as they cover the " t " that signifys taxi up prior to crossing. Ddo please check your facts before commencing to attempt to take the moral high ground. There are " black economys in all countrys just take a look at the uk.

Oh dear Little nige - south insurance doesn't cover anyone for being a taxi, but you should know that, and of course this is not the fault of the KKTC drivers is it now. But, whilst you are in the north and taxi-ing to the south then a registered taxi driver should be what people should use, instead of just getting some English bloke to drive you. There is valid insurance for being a taxi in the north, if you are registered that is. Sorry but its not use getting snotty with me, and perhaps you should not take the moral high ground yourself, with your holier than thou attitude. Your comments would indicate that you are not a registered taxi. Get yourself a work permit, a company and pay your dues and then perhaps I will step off my valid high ground. Yes there are black economies, but thats not the point - as always is this forum not designed specifically for the KKTC?

sorry ilovemydogs (I love mine too!) - sometimes people wind me up! Mehmet Senturk 0533 8657159 has a 6 seater Mercedes Vito people carrier. It has a boot for luggage as well as storage behind the rear seats. If you are travelling from Larnaca the price is £45 each way, or from Ercan £25 (depending on where you destination is though!). I am quite happy to take your booking if you would like and can confirm by return. Mehmets English is great and is very reliable, and he says that he should be able to fit all this in for you, even if you mean hand luggage by the 4 small cases! Otherwise he can organise another taxi in addition to his, but of course this will mean double bubble.

oh look, more of you working without permits I expect - I hope you all get caught and taken to the cleaners (how apt!). Whilst this site should be used to help each other, I didn't think it meant in terms of being able to line your own pockets at the detriment to the Cypriots. Funny how people want reputable registered lawyers, but when it comes to being driven around by people who are not legally able to do so, they don't seem to mind! Hey ho, you take your own lives into your own hands.

ha ha nice one! Well the English cabbies will be stopped as much as possible in the coming months, I won't say how, but lets just say it involves some exams and paperwork! Sorry to go on about it, but seriously, we hate the 'foreigners' taking the mick in the UK, milking the system etc, but we are more than happy to do it here - double standards. Never used to be this way here, but us Europeans do have a bad habit of invading countries, bleeding them dry, and then hopping it over to the next best 'untouched jewel' of the world, and so on and so on...... Ooooh that harks back to the British here years ago doesn't it, buggering off when the going gets tough!!

indeed this is the case Aussie, hence they cover the " t " up on their number plate so. Yo hire a " black economy car here" he is insured fully comp no problem unless he crashes and it comes out he is doing airport transfers time from girne to border 20 mins or so . Cross the border in a legal trnc taxi time to airport aprox 1 hour 15 mins should your legal taxi have a problem what would the reaction of the greek cypriots be since he has only 3rd party insurace ? What would our dear friend HH say where is the biger risk ? girne - border or border - larnaka - paphos ? I have jumped through hoops tried all sorts but the greek cypriots willnot insure for hire or reward unless you register the car over there insure it over there and have a perminant address over there. There but for the grace of god go I ... 60 mph nice calm drive with aircon and a nice chap that stops to let you take pice here there and everywhere the choice is yours.

| Based on Littleniges comments aboove I think its unfair that the police have selectively targetted some people offering airport transfers to Larnaca etc as its not as if local taxi drivers are doing it legally in the South anyway. I think we should be able to pick who we like for airport transfers as its a convenient way to get here and utimately helps the TRNC by lowering the cost of travelling here encouraging tourists. | Masallah! Wish I had your details before, came over two weeks ago, let the hotel (and I thought they were such nice people) arrange the transport for me from Larnaca and then back to Larnaca from Edremit and they charged me £60.00 each way - despite the fact that in advance they told me it would be "about 40". Two adults two suitcases! Should have looked at the Forum but will keep details for return trip in September! |

ok, give a lift to someone you know to or from the airport is a good thing and a forum is meant to be helpful for such a help but i disagree when people get paid as taxi driver - lower the taxi price comparing to local who are paying their taxes to work and feed their families with that money - back work is illegal in uk as well and most of you are complaining more particularly the self employ people - i am myself self employ and it is not fair - an other thing the money paid for taxi between a legal and illegal one is so little that it is not worth to wait desperatly one illegal taxi who might get arrested on his way coming to pick you up or on his way back - thoses do not bother me but i don't feel sorry for the one not playing the game in an other country knowing that they wouldn't accept it in their country !

Blimey are we all still at it!! Sylvie well done and well said. Listen you illegal bunch of no good, money grabbing, tax evading people, you have NO argument - NONE AT ALL. NO ONE is fully insured in the South, so what the hell are you going on about? The point is, is that you are TAXING people illegally in the NORTH before and/or after you take them through the border. You should NOT be doing so and you should BE SHOPPED for doing so. LITTLENIGE - do not say another word on the subject, YOU CANNOT and WILL NOT be able to make it sound less illegal whatever you say. You are awful people who undercut the STANDARD going rate for transfers, and that is even WORSE. Evil people.

Could it just be that people consider being driven by a brit,a little safer than useing a local taxi driver. I had to grab the wheel of one taxi driver when he was useing his mobile,to avoid being hit by a cement lorry. just because you drive a taxi, doe`s not make you a taxi driver, that takes years of skill.

As a Brit. I am happy being driven by a UK cabbie. However it is wrong and we shouldn't condone it on these bb's. Where are the moderators? Petty things get deleted. More serious illegal stuff stays? Val xx

Val44 How do we determine who is legal and who is not? and as far as I can see there is nothing that has been posted on this thread that is against forum rules. I would advise you to re-appraise yourself of the BB rules and then let us know what rules have been broken. AJ

Aj. This person could have asked for a lift directly by using the e-mail address of the mini cab/taxi driver and not ask open questions directly which seems to get certain "moderator nurds" on the case of every little thing that is now being put on the board. HRT may well be needed.

Val44 "it is common sense not to let people advertise illegal services." 'Let the buyer beware' It is up to board members to decide whether the services they use are legal or not. "If you would like me to elaborate I will." If you want to elaborate on this board rather than e-mail me then please do. "But you will look silly." So what I can take it. "Plus you will delete the post anyway." Depends what is in it. If it does not breach BB rules then why should I? AJ Val xx

AJ I refuse to email you. If you think it proper and correct to let illegal services advertise blatantly on this BB thats OK only with you. Moderators should discuss this subject. When posts are made on an expat BB that deprive legal hardworking local people of money to feed there family. Something is wrong with the moderation system. I have posted before that I think some of the moderators here do not have the common sense for the job. Val xx

Val44 without wanting to be repetitive how could the mods ever know whether a service advertised on this BB is legal or not? I do not disagree with your statement about expats depriving locals of income and if you have ever taken the time to read any of my other postings then you will know who I support and who I do not. But the question remains, how does anyone on this board know who is or not supplying illegal services? You are still at liberty to try and make me look stupid. AJ

Msg 8 posted by me on 10/11/07 @ 20:19 Hi Mark, Are you insured/licensed for the passengers you carry? And is it ok for you to pick up at the airport without any Police harassment. Reason for asking as we are coming over in the new year and may well book you. Price to Bogaz please, return journey. Cheers, Tiggy. I never received a reply and it was clear soon afterwards this person was moonlighting. If any one on this forum believes that all the Cypriots that drive cabs are legal and pay taxes....then they are deluded! Everyone is cutting corners, just look at builders, solicitors and all the rest. Bless the one's that do pay therir way. Hattikins, I was having a joke about the seat belt and was sincerely wishing you a happy holiday. So who is the sad one here. Lighten up...and also your mate. life is to short to be be going on about moderate this and that. Val, Go off line and chat to AJ and stop griping all over this board. P.

| Val44 Thanks for your replies, but you have not answered any of my questions. I must admit you have made me laugh with your replies and to be honest rather than make me look silly I think you have done so to yourself. Anyway enough is enough and if you do want to debate the Mod thing seriously then feel free to e-mail me and I can take on board any sensible constructive suggestions that you have and they will then be discussed with the other Mods. | I looked up Wum and I found the following. wum Deragatory name for a woman. "Wum" is the female discharge or female Cum. Womanly cum thus the everyday word WUM. I can honestly say I am not a man, a goat or whatever name you want to call me. As for a WUM? I refuse to answer such an insulting comment. |

Really WUM = Wind up merchant... Moi???? I am fed up with thread. It has left the topic. It just seems to be a slag off Val post. The moderator wants me to make him look stupid. Hows that possible? If you want to look stupid AJ pull a funny face and look in the mirror. Or spend your days rushing into threads along with at least 12 other moderators to make comments like. I would advise you to re-appraise yourself of the BB rules and then let us know what rules have been broken. AJ I'm off to bed xx

What is more many expats would prefer not to be doing " buck she " work byt because the police fail to enforce theft and fraud laws ( it would appear ) and the government fail to enforce building regulation laws on builders many are left many thousands of pounds out of pocket over and above that which they had budgeted for. SO if locals do not like foreigners taking their jobs press the government to stop the systematic theft and fraud perpetrated of home buyers in trnc.

Nige. If you are bitter and twisted. Go see a shrink. I gave my views on the taxi situation. You didnt like what I said? Ok end of story.....I no longer want an argument. This is not the UK. If you are so upset with the place why are you still here? There was a good reason why this place was cheap to move to. It was the same situation 5 years ago.

littlenige, i just read your post and i realize than you are a real trouble maker when you keep reminding that restaurant story - if i remember, you had trouble with that restaurant owner, isn't it ?didn't you have to go to the police to be question about it !!!! you were not so brave i suppose !!! so i would advice you not to push hot hornet to much - there is nothing you should be proud of - and to my point of view ,it gives a very bad image of the " expat" as you say !!!
