Last year my friend and colleague Bo de Visser, a Dutch journalist/photographer, and I were invited to visit the UN Buffer Zone in Nicosia. I've uploaded here already several photos Bo took during our tour, but forgot to upload the second photobook. The complete, huge version is here now:

▶ [ http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/cyp_nic_un_buffer_zone/index.html ].

It was a scary walk in the past (photo captions are hardly necessary, I think), I hope you see pictures you haven't seen before!

If there are serious questions about the photo report I'll answer them in this thread.

If there is a solution and the Island does unify how much of this area will still stand or will it all be demolished .

Hans,

Many thanks for the photos. I have driven and walked this part of the Buffer Zone many times.

You have brought me back to my (relative) youth.

If you have served in the Buffer Zone or have other memories about one or more pics: mail me the title (or number) of the photograph and I'll email you the original picture (to print or keep on your computer).

Mail to: hansdoeleman@allcusades.com .

Thanks Hans, these are fascinating and poignant images; 'new' cars with 37 miles on the clock, bottles of Sprite, dishes in sinks. It brings home the reality of that tragic time in a way that walking across the Ledra street crossing never can.

Hi all!

I've broken the link on Cyprus44 on purpose, because I have enough of all the nasty posts (and emails!) from anonymous posters in even innocent threads about Cyprus where I usually try to upload something that may interest the majority of decent C44 members.

But the photo report is still on line and you can find it here (everyone can view the pics, but only members can comment):

Kind regards,

Please post rule 15 here so that everyone can understand what it says.

Nevertheless, linking to one specific forum repetitively, for the purposes of advertising that forum, will get you banned.

I understand the last line very well,so should you,

you seem to quote rules when it suits your agenda.

OK so here is the rule:

'15. Posting Links to Other Forums

Posting links to other forums is permitted with the discretion of forum admins.

Pointing out something on another forum for information purposes, is acceptable.

Nevertheless, linking to one specific forum repetitively, for the purposes of advertising that forum, will get you banned.

Take note of line 1 and line 2.

If you are referring to line 3 then please tell us all what your definition of 'repetitive' is.

And if you still have a problem then refer it to Forum Admin. Or maybe after reading all of your previous posts you may want to apply to become part of the Forum Admin team because you certainly do not bring anything else to the board.

Babydoll,

I think members know only too well about vested interests and agendas by now. Let's face it all 3, Babydoll, AJ and DC have interests in other forums. Surely the odd plug for the alternatives to Cyprus 44 can't do any harm as folks will then have a choice of where to get their information from.

I would like some links please to a few friendly forums as I am thinking that at times some threads here do get out of hand. I know the mods do a wonderful job and its not always easy for them either.

Ps I can see that this new idea comes across as a promotion to Han's forum

Perhaps that is the way to go spider, one topic listing all the available forums then there would be no need to keep plugging away. Members could just search for that when ever they like.

Great idea a little like on the what's calender at the top.something tells me that wont work lol

Why I wonder ? Think its all to do with advertising and hits etc ! way too much for me to understand maybe someone could explain ? But we seem to get loads of links to Han's web site.So I guess its Ok to get links to other forum ? And having them all in one place like you said makes its easy all round /

Hi Hans,

Really interesting photography - is there any chance that you could show the first lot of photographs that you displayed again ( for people who we are trying to give the history of the island to)

It is thanks to your interest that gives so much interest to the likes of people who may be oblivious to the history of Cyprus.

Really amazing photos of an amazing subject. You are so lucky to have had the opportunity to have a look round there. What is the area that this covers? What a waste, there are some very beautiful old buildings, unlike in Varosha. Let's hope that one day they will be put back to their former glory and the whole area can be opened up again. Very much regret that in some part this thread degenerated into the usual unnecessary personal sniping.

@ msg 49, ajaney: (...) Very much regret that in some part this thread degenerated into the usual unnecessary personal sniping. (...)

▶ ajaney, I couldn't agree with you more. But the solution is there. Prove that you are a genuine poster (real name and email address - false ID's and known nasties will have NO access) and you'll have free access to my website with the text/pictures you want to see. And I'm very sorry that this seems to be the only way to keep the nasties on C44 away from normal people, who try to do something positive for TRNC and positive, interested members/readers of C44.
