90 days is (usually) stamped on your passport and that is the maximum stay, so best not ignored!

90 days but if you want to stay a little longer just do a day trip over and get a bit longer I no your supposed to apply for temp residency but the more people I talk to I'm amazed how people have stayed for long periods on visitors visas one person I spoke to has been here 5 years by doing this they can't refuse you at the border but they can be funny and give you a much shorter time like everything here everyones got an opinion or a different experiance I no there's laws but it seems more like a game here

You might get out after a long stay (i.e. overstay) here, but I doubt they would let you in again.

jones243,

my neighbours come here every winter for 5 months, they just take a trip to the south when their 90 days is up.

I do think it makes a difference if you are of retiring age when they decide how long your visa will last.

jones243,

The problem is, no one can guarantee they won't have problem, or that they will automatically get an extension of their visa without leaving the country. Yes many people do it and get away with it - until one day they don't. Then it's shit creek no paddle time....

Ask yourself this, would you like to be the one who suggests everything will be fine, don't worry and they get caught out by the unfortunate happen-stance that 'Mr. stickler for regulations' is on duty when they are trying to leave the island or cross the border?

I would therefore advise that you exercise caution and suggest that they factor in a short trip to Istanbul as a break in the holiday and thus avoid any problems whatsoever and also enjoy the fantastic spectacle that Istanbul provides.... I'd hate for your friendship to be put under strain by you giving duff advice and certainly advice to 'risk it' as suggested by some, would cut no ice with the authorities.

Sorry realise it's you jones243. Be legal and be safe... or be a bit of a geezer and take the risk... it's up to you.

Turkey are again bringing in the rule of 90 days stay in 180 days again from January 2012, they tried to bring it in in 2010 but had to change their minds, nothing about it on the British Embassy website but it is on Turkish Embassy website and printed in an English Newspaper, it is their way of encouraging residency. The reason that Turkey are implementing that regulation is to stop foreign workers. It is not intended for tourists. Getting residency is easy as long as you have property or a rental agreement including a marina contract if you have a boat.

They should do it here I maintain that if you wish to live here then get residency. What I cant understand is how these people get driving licences if they only have a tourist visa? oh of course they don't! so more illegal drivers on the road and no licence no insurance.

Message1,

I did not mean just stay for six months and see what happens, after approx 80 days go over the border and you should get another 90 day stamp.

Why not you are on holiday.

Hippo. I know people who live in Turkey who go over to Greece on a ferry for the day to get a new visa this is one of the things Turkey want to put a stop to.
