TElsim is way better .. With KIYAK Tariff you load 250 credits and get to talk to other kiyak peoplefor 3 consecutive months for free.. And limitlessly! That's awesome!

.I brought a phone in the U.K and brought it with me to the TRNC.

I bought a Turkcell sim card, only to discover that the phone was locked to the UK.

I tried several shops in Girne to see if it could be unlocked, but it is an Alcatel and nobody can unlock it.

Any ideas anybody?

Telsim by far from what I see. We constantly use the Kiyak Tariff, which is also referred to as the Super Duper Tariff.

Basically, if you and your partner, friends etc have loaded the Kiyak Tariff to your mobile(Telsim subscribers only!), you can talk to them unlimited for THREE months. We havn't seen any other offer that comes close to this.

What does the Kıyak tariff cost for those 250 credits mentioned in msg 2, and is it 250 kontors or minutes?

Occasionally I call in to the offices to ask if there are any offers that would make it more economical for me to switch over but it all depends on how much usage you will have each month as to whether it is worth your while being tied to one of these packages.

Well all the people we contact seem to use Turkcell so having a Turkcell makes sense for us... as it's always less units to call on the same network, so I guess it depends on what you friends are running. So I would suggest you ask your friends with Cyprus mobiles and choose accordingly.

I'm given to understand that some time ago there was an EU directive that permanent mobile phone locking was to be made illegal due to it restricting trade and being anti-competitive. Therefore you mobile phone should be un-lockable with the right codes...

Pippie,

The Kiyak Tariff is not this complex! 250 credits equates to 15TL. If you and your partner both load the Kiyak Tariff at the same, you can speak to eachother for THREE months unlimited, no catch.

If you want it in minutes, 24 hours x 60 mins = 1,440 minutes per day

1,440 minutes x 90 days (approximately) = 129,600 minutes of FREE calls to every Telsim subscriber who has uploaded this tarif.

I think it is quite easy to see why my partner and I choose Telsim!

msg 7 Pippie,

MaryB has got it spot on. If you and your partner both load this tarif, you get unlimited calls to every Telsim Kiyak Tarif subscriber. As a Turkish Cypriot who has been living here for 8 years, it is by far the best offer at the moment if you want to save pennies on calls.

My parner and I have been using it for months now.

Little bit off thread, but has anyone noticed an increase in their Turkcell bills? Ours seem to have almost doubled but just been using them about the same amount as before.

I have been looking in UK for a cheap unlocked mobile phone to use in TRNC with a Turkish simcard.

I have been told to check the frequency and network first of Turkey as not all phones will accept a Turkish sim card.Is this correct or will anyone work as long as the phone is unlocked, even a basic cheap one? I am not sure what sim cards Lemar offer with the credits. does nayone know and is this the best one to buy?

Had my phone unlocked in the UK but still wouldnt take Telsim or Turkcell sims. Went to a little shop on the roundabout outside Famagusta old town. Cost £15 to unlock and works well.

As for which is the best to use, it depends if you are there on holiday or living and if you will be using it mainly for texts, calling locally or the UK.

During the summer months there are usually offers on so shop around for the best deal.
