I am just wondering how things are living in Cyprus at the moment. I have not been there for nearly a year but own a house there. The last few times I have been there has been a sense of gloom about the island with little optimism - low tourist numbers and many expats wanting to leave the island. Is this still the case or is there more optimism about the economic prospects for the island. I am presuming that the reunification talks have come to nothing, as expected?

No real change roachie although if the new Bill to cap interest rates retrospectively is passed it could make a difference/

You'll always get the ones full of doom and gloom and unfortunately this behaviour breeds more of the same. They're not necessarily wrong, but sometimes can be exaggerated when focussed on too much.

But, some of the more positive souls look beyond the difficulties of dealing with authorities, escalating petrol prices, getting a job (which is just the same all over the world these days) and look at how great it feels to be waking up in the middle of December with blue skies, any clouds are more white rather than dark grey. You go out on the road and there's little to no road rage despite the city centre queues at rush hour, you can have fun stopping at every supermarket as you drive along cos you forgot one thing, knowing you're not having to drive out of your way, the pace of life is slower and there's no point in getting yourself all upset and frantic cos you can't get more than one job done a day, that's just the way it is here!!

(feeling philosophical today!!)

You certainly must be Pipie. Good for you, live every day to the limit, I do and there are many that wish I wouldn't.

If you have no problems, then living here is as close to perfect as you will get, maybe one day I will be joining the blessed ones.

Pippe it all sounded great until you said:

You go out on the road and there's little to no road rage

Then it just became wishful thinking or dreaming. Perhaps a look at accident statistics for Cyprus?

Northern Cyprus to me is everything. The culture, the history, the kindness of the locals (And ex-pats) never ceases to amaze me. I grew up in a suburb of London and throughout my adult life worked in every corner of the UK. And, God forbid, if for some reason I had to leave this beautiful place, the UK would be the last place on earth I would want to move back to.

If you or anyone else is interested to read about how I ended up here (Instead of South Cyprus) my journey by road across Europe to TRNC and why I love my life here, then this is the link to my blog page entitled ‘UK across Europe to Cyprus,’ this may be of interest:

Continued from previous post:-

I realise there are countless hurdles/problems and annoyances to overcome if one wants to make a life over here. I have read on these forums the sad position many people are in regarding the problems with properties etc. etc. but foresight is a great leveller. In my opinion it’s a price one has to pay for what in my eyes is ‘heaven on earth.’
