when people are working in KKTC what does social security covers

i would like to know what does SS covers for people working in TRNC -



do you have the choice of doctor for medical care

sickness, medecine

dentist

glasses

hospital



curious to know about it !

You can get a discount at the local hospital or free treatment sometimes, and it goes towards a pension of sorts.

when you work the emplyers pays social security - to me it means you should be able to be cure freely when going to the doctor or......



i am trying to compare with what we have in france if it is comparable of course -

in france we both pay for SS when we work - and when we need medical care social security pays for it -

If you have Social Security, state hospitals and medicine obtained through the same are free. If you have a condition which cannot be treated at these hospitals, you can be sent to others including abroad for free treatment if approved by the relevant committee. Now there is very little of that because most services including heart byepass can be done here.



If you visit a private doctor, the medice prescribed by them can be obtained through private chemists at reduced prices but you must produce the book supplied by the Social Security.



Unfortunately some medicine prescribed by state Hospitals are not available there and hence they must be obtained from private chemists. I am not sure if you can get those as well at reduced prices.



I hope there is no difference between TRNC subjects and others who pay for SS but I am not 100% sure of that.



People have to pay for SS up to the age of 65 if they are working and indeed have to keep paying even after 65. However if you declare

that you stopped working at 65 and later if you change your mind and start work again, they will not re-register you again because you are too old!!! Of course you benefit from SS services as a retired pensioner from the SS. I stopped working at 65 but told them that I will start work again after three days. They could not do anything about it. However they warned me that if I tender for any government work I will not be able to produce any paper from the SS to show that my SS premiums are paid regularly. No problem because I never tender directly.

Ah yes, they pay something towards new glasses but it takes ages to recover the money.

If you go private you pay for it but you can get discount on prescribed medicine like antibiotics.

I am sure that I read a few months ago that foreigners will not receive a state pension regardless of how many years they have been employed here and no matter how much an employer has paid on their behalf.

Does anybody know the facts?

I have just looked at the new Social Security law that was passed in 2007 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26171843/73-2007%20SS.doc

and there is no distinction amongst members i.e. there is no mention of those members who are TRNC citizens and those who are not. Only those who come to work here not exceeding three months and have social security in their own country are exempt from payment of SS premiums i.e. those who come here for technical services representing foreign companies.

I would do some very careful checking, my husband is employed with a work permit and had some serious medical issues last year. He was treated at Lefkosa state hospital and is now on medication for life. Even though we produced his yellow ss card on discharge at the hospital we still had to pay a large amount and he pays full price for all his medication.

but as Elko says there shoujldn't be difference between TC and foreigners working in TRNC - it is less complicated in France you work you pay SS so you have it if you are a legal foreigner or french citizen- but this summer my brother in law had heart problem and he is not living in cyprus but has the kimlik card - he didn't pay at the general hospital of nicosia - elko says that some medecine you buy to private chemist is not free of charge maybe it is the case for your husband

Zeytinlidere, my SS card is pink, always has been. Perhaps if your husband's is yellow he is entitled to different things?

my SS card is yellow as well, but i've never known what i can and can't do with it, I've taken it to the hospital with me before, but they are not interested in seeing it, i've never been offered any concessions or anything with it. I got the card in 2008 if that's any different to other peoples? Maybe the yellow ones are older or something?

You probably have to ask for the concessions, may be they don't 'offer it', you have to alert them to it.

I found this out yesterday, as you know I have a yellow SS card, you need to go to the social sigorta office in the tax office and change it for a pink one. You need to take your yellow Isci Karti, your passport with work permit in, and a passport size photo of yourself and 3TL. You need to go to the back of the office to the Sosyal Sigorta desk, and see the man there and explain you want a pink card. He will then check and ask you to see someone else in the same office, then you to to another desk and pay 3TL for a ink stamp. Then go back to see him and he will give you your pink cards. One is for the state hospital and then a pink book with your photo on, which he said is for reduced cost medicines at the chemist. All in all, it took about 15 minutes and they were all really helpful and kind.
