Almost half a century of negotiations have failed to bring a fruitful outcome for the unification to the ethnically divided Mediterranean island of Cyprus. There is nothing left that both sides have not already discussed in detail over the years; however, instead of making progress on reconciling differences, things have gone from bad to worse, and hopes for a settlement have faded. I wonder if the time has come -- or already passed -- to be honest with ourselves and admit that other options such as partition and separation may be all that's left. http://www.todayszaman.com/columnist-263874-end-of-the-game-in-cyprus.html

@ msg 1, No1Doyen: Though interesting to read: the column is dated November 25, 2011. P.S. I know you have an iPhone - download the free Zaman app and you have all the news daily (even with push notifications).

Msg 8 - the correct English saying and correct boxing term is "punching above your weight"..... if we are going to lecture our foreign neighbours on our own sayings let's get it right.

philbailey, you recently expressed surprise that I agreed with your comments on a different thread what you seem to be doing in your various postings on this topic, is taking a position in opposition to that of the writer in "todays szaman" .....as well as revealing some dismay all well and good, and who am I to define the rightness and wrongness of these issues? but what has always struck me about the cyprus "problem" itself is the vital question of from exactly whose perspective one is looking at the situation? knowing that, or knowing you as if to refer to alan partridge will tend to produce any of the possible choice of opinions from a long but highly predictable list

@ msg 10, newlad: (...) Hans, Whether the article is from 2011 or 2005,nothing has changed. The talks are still at deadlock, (...) ▶ I know Paul - nothing wrong with the column. But the subject (and this very column) has been discussed on this forum after AJ posted the same link on November 25, 2011: [ http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/79800.asp ]. That's why it was déja vu for me.
