My husband went to the general hospital in Girne today with his work mate to have there blood test etc done. it was discusting, there was old blood in various places, they used a rubber glove to rap round his arm to get the vein up, did not change gloves between taking his blood and that of his collegue! no wonder there are problems with the blood results!!!!

I agree citychick, the place is filthy, and if you go for a stool sample take your own loo paper as there was none.

Citychick I don't like the use of a rubber glove as a tourniquet either but it is actually better than having ones like they use in the UK for loads of patients! A glove can only be used a few times whereas the proper tourniquet is used often for up to a year or when it starts to look a bit grubby!! The use of gloves for anyone taking blood is actually to protect the nurse and very rarely gets blood on it and I am sure if that happened they would change the glove then! Personally i hated taking blood with gloves on! I do agree that hygiene standards are very poor in the state hospitals to say the least. Chris

He was unlucky, when I recently had to have mine done they sent me to have the tests done in a private clinic and then I had to report back to the state hospital!
