for restaurants i would suggest Ibelli (Italian) and Efendi House(International) both in the turkish quarter of kyrenia. also House opposite the Colony Hotel in kyrenia. these are the best 3 in kyrenia by far.

difficult to suggest places to visit without knowing your tastes

For tyraditional Turkish Cypriot food and a warm welcome and a very reasonable price you won't got wrong with Ikimiz in Girne

I have some Turkish friends in England and I am very partial to all traditional Turkish dishes, so I guess I am looking for restaurants that serve local dishes

Thanks again

The Archway Restaurant at Zeytinlik......true Cypriot hospitality and food.

Silver Rocks at Lapta is a 'one stop' venue for a day out. Owned and run by a Cypriot family the food is excellent, the location fantastic, there is a large sea water pool and access to the sea to swim.

A visit to the Mavi Kiosk [Guzelyurt/Sadrazamkoy way] is a good day out [remember to take your passports].

We now have a new marina at Yeni Erenkoy if you are interested in this sort of thing. The Karpaz is a must and you will see wonderful beaches there. There are many places in the Karpaz to stay overnight that are reasonably priced and offer you a Cypriot experience.

Enjoy your holiday.

As you're staying in Alsancak please try the Tervetuloa hotel/restaurnat for their local dishes are magnificent and include a great number of meze starter plates.

The problem is Kyrenia (Girne) and surroundings are not only the centre of the tourist trade, but are also where most of the expatriate population live , so it is becoming less and less representative of true Cyprus and the Cypriots , except in little known spots.

Last time I visited (which admittedly was while ago) Güzelyurt was much more Cypriot and even Lefkoşa (Nicosia) and Gazimağusa (Famagusta) have a more Cypriot flavour. And as an earlier poster said the Karpas is a "must".

In Girne area go to see the Wednesday Bazaar (Çarsamba Pazar) on Wed. mornings and you should of course also see Bellapaise (of "Bitter Lemons" fame) - that has been sadly tourisised but cant spoil the Monastery and picturesque buildings and breathtaking views.

Totally agree with previous posters. The Karpaz is a must.

There are so many places to visit. Apart from the lovely St. Hilarion Castle there are also Kantara and Buffavento Castles to explore. Bellapais is nearby and worth a visit. It is very pretty and has a beautiful old monastery. If you are a history buff like me you will also probably like Salamis and Famagusta. I really liked the old part of Nicosia and the ancient Vuni Palace, which has amazing views.

I am over in April too. Can't wait! Enjoy your holiday!
