Hi folks - been following the book signing thread and it occurred to me that I could take this opportunity to pass on (ok, publicise!) that I published my first book a few months ago - on Kindle. It's called 'The Shift - author Terence Campbell' (I did a column in the Cyprus Star for about 2 1/2 years under 'Terry Campbell'). Just in case anyone wanted to get it! Not sure if ther is much of a 'Kindle Community' out there. I come over in July and will be bringing mine as it will hopefully keep the baggage costs down. It occurred to me that many others may have something they want published. I have attached a link which I found very helpful. A step by step guide to publishing your own book. It's pretty easy, although I made a mess of my cover, which is far too small, and will have to be fixed. Anyway, the print was very easy to do. http://www.realfastbook.com/denisekindle.html Regards

Not sure if anyone is interested in this, but I have been scanning the internet and there is loads of help for anyone who does have a book that they wish to publish. Have a look at http://www.bubblecow.net/self-publishing-on-the-kindle Most of these sites are selling some sort of service / book in the end (just like me 'The Shift - Terence Campbell...just in case the message didn't carry!), but provide useful tips. I'm sure there must a lot of 44 members who create some works as they sit in the sun? Why not put in on Kindle. Costs nothing, and providing you keep costs reasonable, you may be surprised who may enjoy your work. Doesn't have to be a big work either - you can put on a chapter a time if you want. I see the weather is heating up...keep it warm out there, we are due to come out in July regards

Many thanks! I wait nervously. I'm not sure the sample thing is a good idea, but it's part of the Kindle deal regards

@ msg 1/3, Calvinhobbes: Very interesting! I'd like to contact you when you are in Northern Cyprus in order to discuss technical aspects of the Kindle format. I recently started to publish the "Medieval Cyprus eMagazine" but have chosen the ePub format for iDevices and the common pdf for reading/downloading on any computer platform and non-iDevices. I'd like to test how I can convert the eMagazine to the Kindle (Fire) format and how the eMagazine would look on a Kindle after converting. Hope you will contact me: e: hansdoeleman@allcrusades.com, mobile: 0533 864 5433, Skype: Dutch_Crusader. If you are interested: download the first issue of the eMagazine via this shortened link: ▶ [ http://is.gd/QBrBqA ] or read it on line: ▶ [ http://is.gd/QBrBqA ].

Crusader I was thinking of your works when I first put this on, but could not remember if you had done anything like this or not. I recommend you have a good trawl round the Amazon Kindle site, and listen to the input which I highlight on my first link. i am not a technical person (hence the fact I messed up my cover - which I still have to fix), but this really was designed for anyone to manage. I have taken it from your many posts that you are quite good with computing. I am not on my own computer just now, and will not be on it until later in week, but will email you when I am regards

Hans, You probably already know this, but there is a free tool ro convert most formats (including epub) to most other formats - including 'mobi' which is the preferred format for non-DRM protected Kindle documents. AZW - the kindle format - seems to be just mobi with DRM bolted on. You can also download a Kindle reader (for free) - I think that it works on the wind-up computers that you favour - so you can see what the results actually look like on a Kindle without buying one. If you get desperate, you can borrow mine - for a SHORT time only

Forgot to mention - the 'received wisdom' is that PDF's are the format that converts LEAST well to mobi, although I think that it depends a lot on how the original PDF was produced, e.g. from a scanned document, converted from WORD, or by using Adobe's own tools, to name but a few...

@ msg 8 & 9, Keithcaley: Thanks, Keith! I use Calibre (on my MacBook Pro) to convert any format I want to read on my iPad. The eMagazine I publish is designed in Apple's Pages and then exported to pdf. On my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 I have a whole series of 'readers' for various formats - how sad that once again the big boys couldn't agree on one standard format!
