If you have an iPad and if you are like me - you'd like to see the inside of your miracle gadget. Alas, Apple glued it all together. Not a chance for careful end users. But iFixIt took apart a new iPad and took lots of pictures so you can see what it looks like inside - without having to void your own warranty... ▶ [ http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPad-3-4G-Teardown/8277/1 ].

Turtle: Apple prices are fixed all over the world - in Apple Stores and in stores/shops from official Apple resellers. There you get the service and guarantee on what you buy there. All other offers of Apple stuff are sold by people who imported the stuff on the "grey market". No, thank you. I even saw a post on C44 offering Apple stuff with a TWO years guarantee... Plain rubbish and cheating potential customers.

Hans, price fixing in the EU is illegal. A company can be fined upto 10% of its worldwide turnover if found guilty can you imagine what the turnover of Apple is worldwide,..... I do hope they have covered their a**e

Turtle, which company produces Apple stuff other than Apple? So Apple decides about the prices for the goods the Apple company produces. Apple "fixes" its OWN prices for its OWN products. I don't see the problem.

Any retailer who sells Apple products has to sell at what Apple tell them,.... this is illegal its not allowed and if they start to discount then Apple pull the plug thus keeping product prices artificially high. This is illegal practice and should be stopped.

| It's Apples product, and they can sell that product for any amount of money they desire, If it was too expensive no one would buy it, but their products sell faster than any of their rivals, I can't see how the prices are fixed, they set a price and that price is worldwide, same price in China as in Australia, or UK, and they can't keep up with demand, people sit out for days at the Apple store to get the next latest product. that's proof in itself that they have a desirable product that the masses want, price fixing is when rival Companies get together and fix a price on the same type of products that they all make, there is only Apple no one makes the same product as Apple, so it's not price fixing. | Apple has contracted to make its iPad 2s and 3s in China, the material cost for the 32gb iPad 2 WiFi + 3g - which sells for $729 - is about $325, or $335 including labor, which puts Apple's gross margin (ex shipping/handling) at 54%. Just using the simple math above, if the iPad 2 was made in the U.S it would cost $617.77, bringing Apple's gross margin down to 15.25%! Of course, Apple is not in the business of self-immolation, and given their relatively substantial pricing power, they could just make the iPad 2 more expensive, let's say, increasing the price to the point where their gross margins stayed intact, from $729 to $1,144.02!
