Yes, the police station in Girne is supposed to show them a copy of the hire contract with their names and signatures on it. The same thing happened to me.

As long as they kept their "in and out' paper visa stamp, I cannot see that they can have any further issue, except with the hire company and their records.

When I visited in February I had the same problem. You have 24 hours to visit the police station in Girne. Three speeding fines from 2011. Attached were the hire car agreements for all dates and locations of each offense.

Why should it be a sam - obviously previous renters had a speeding ticket etc. Looks like an oversight on the paper work to me

As long as your passport verifies you were not in the TRNC on the dates in question you will have no problem

The signature was indeed mine, so I paid up. However, your passport stamps won't work. You can sign a contract, leave the country, and have your deranged teenager son speed past the camera the next day. If the contract is yours you pay the fine regardless of who was driving.

You could have got the photo from the camera, but as it was your son you probably would have ended up paying the fine anyway! This has happened to me twice now (4 tickets in total). Both times they informed me when we came back over from the South. I have never hired a car but was employed by a car hire firm for a few months. They decided as they obviously hadn't got any record of who was driving at the time they would use my details! So beware, always ask to see the copy of the contract and check the dates!
