TRNC's official population at 265 thousand

Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer has announced that the official population of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is 265,644.

The Prime Minister announced the official results of the census carried out in April last year during a press conference in Lefkosa today.

According to the official figures released 135,106 citizens of the Republic are of TRNC nationality, nearly 35 thousand possess dual Turkish –TRNC citizenship, nearly 5 thousand people have joint British and TRNC citizenship and a total of 70 thousand 525 people are of solely Turkish citizenship.

The remaining 8 thousand are foreigners, permanent residents of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The population distribution in the 5 districts of the Republic are.

Lefkosa - 85,577

Gazimagusa - 64,269

Girne - 62,158

Guzelyurt - 31,116

Iskele - 21,978

The Prime Minister had announced in May last year that the de-facto population of the TRNC had hit 264-thousand.
