Now i have been here in TRNC for 8 years now, have tried most of the resturants, but last night some friends and i went to Restaurant 14 in the Girne Turkish Quarter.

The building its self take your breath away, and the courtyard where you will eat is simply stunning.

But if you are a food lover then you must visit this place, it is definatly in my top 3 restaurants to visit Guide.

easy to find, drive into Turkish quarter via the telecom office, follow the one way signs until you get to the Sele resturant, opposite is a small road which is where the small mosque is located, walk 50 yards the restaurant is on your right. Enjoy.

We went last week & would totally agree with your comments the surroundings are absolutely stunning. We did however find the portions very small & no vegetables or salad to accompany the main course. Service was excellent as well we will definitely go again & hope that they are being more generous with the food!!

We went on friday and i cant stop raving about it, absolutely stunning. Delicious food, stunning villa, great service and the icing on the cake was what i thought was actually a very reasonable bill at the end of it. If only there were more places like No14 and efendi............

found it today & met the owner...looks like a lovely place..here are some easy directions, if you are standing out-side the Girne post office, cross the road and walk straight up, do not turn right to the KAR charity shop turn left the road has a one way sign, follow this round and keep walking up, Sele restaurant is on your left and there is a sign for restaurant 'Number 14' on the right, the road is called Yazıcızade Sokak, during the day the doors are closed, the door has a paper and pen for you to write your reservations for that evening and the menu for that evening is also posted on the door (changed daily, fresh produce bought) they only have 7 smal tables around the pool in the courtyard, he said he turned away numerous people last night, they have only opened 2 weeks to the publis, the villa also has a few rooms/studios with kitchens which are like an excusive boutique b&b and were occupied already! The menu tonight had things like tomatoe and mozzarella to start,

Am I right in thinking that this is the holiday let called Yazicizade House? I remember looking at this some years ago, beautiful setting but quite expensive to stay at.

you are right, same one! The website is: http://www.theyazadehouse.com/

they only opened as a restaurant 2 weeks ago, clever little venture I thnk instead of just retiring to a villa & doing nothing! The owner definitely seems enthusiastc and a natural entrepreneur, I didn't meet his wife...I used to work in a small boutique hotel like this in Sorrento and it too was quite dear but equally unique, am sure they will do well, it would certanly be a different holiday, more independant & located very near the centre! A very peaceful setting!

re msg 13 I have lived here 6 months & walked through the area but didn't know it was known as the 'Turkish quarter'! What do you suppose is so Turkish about it or why is it known as that? I have never heard of it being known as that except for on this forum! The 'Sele' restaurant seems to do more typical English food than Turkish looking at the menu, there are a few shops, butchers etc and apart from that a small mosque and loads of lovely old houses...not really different to other areas you go through or any more Turkish in my opinion!

Nat. We stop in a lovely house in the Turkish quarter every year. It is so quiet and peaceful and the few shops around are owned by lovely Turkish people. As you say Sele does sell mostly English food, but the two brothers who run it (Ali and Zen) are Turkish and really friendly. Its always our last port of call at night on the way back to the house for a last drink. Can't wait until 3rd August, we are counting the days.

Hi Aysesdaddy, yes it is a lovely area & peaceful! Sele does look nice too and would like to try the few Turkish dishes they had on the menu! Turkish people are very welcoming and friendly as you say! My Turkish fiance would like it there if the owners are Turkish!

We go to 'Beyti' restaurant in the centre a lot which is Turkish run and does excellent Turkish pizzas and kebabs etc very reasonable & the owner is very friendly!

I can believe you can't wait, it must be lovely to spend your holidays like that, more like part of the community rather than another number in a large hotel! That is why I like the look of: http://www.stonehotelistanbul.com/ for Istanbul I prefer friendly small hotels!

Re msg 16 Hi The Big Man, Am really sorry but can't remember the prices, you get a choice of starters mains and desserts & the different dishes in each are differently priced, I think the mains were around 16ytl, the starters about 10ytl but I guess if you're not that hungry you could just skip them!

Will try to have another look soon or when I go and note the prices next time!

The setting is very nice though and I imagine there are candles in the evening making it a romantic and unique setting!

Yes! On the leaflet it says ' after a very successful run of owning and managing award-wining restaurants n the UK they were tempted back into business when they stumbled upon Efendi House'...

msg 18. Hi Nat, we like 'Beyti' for good reasonable turkish food. The menu is so varied you could go everynight for a week and eat something different. The thing we like about 'Sele' is the friendlyness of Ali and Zen. Our 13 year old daughter loves going there and we usually celebrate her birthday while we are there. Its great when Zen switches off the lights and walks in singing Happy Birthday with a cake with sparklers on. We hope to try '14' while we are there, it does sound lovely, but would like to know an idea of prices, if anyone can tell us. Thanks

It's widely known as the traditional part of Kyrenia where the Turkish Cypriots lived from Ottoman times through when the town was overwhelmingly Greek Cypriot i.e. up until the mid-1970s. Any serious reference book about north Cyprus will include a section about the Old Turkish Quarter. For example, some of the houses there have original Turkish baths in them.

This in our opinion, was the most pleasant dining experience we have had in the TRNC. The renovations carried out on a very old house is nothing short of stunning, the food was just delicious I actually had a main meal that originates from South Africa. The owners and their staff were attentive and very friendly.

Number 14 is number 1 in my book.
