Does anyone (EXPATS) go to the casinos and if so what sort of evening do you have? Would like to take our friends to one but need to know more about them first. Is there a dress code, what's the food like and is it a good craic? Someone informed my mate that you cannot wear sandals and need to be formally dressed and wearing shoes. Be grateful for any info and advice. Really fancy the Colony or the Rocks but feel you would have to be done up like a dog's dinner and prefer casual dress. Thanks for any help.

all things in moderation. We're curious and want to see inside a casino as tired of the endless restaurants, cafes etc; seems they open 3 new ones each week. Never been a gambler so not worried about getting hooked. Just felt it might make a nice change to spend an evening there.

Hi Misti, not been to the Colony, but the Rocks is very nice, they have a 'tea' menu from 4-6pm, not expensive.

They have the usual casino stuff and there is usually live events on Fridays.

Dress is smart but you dont have to wear a suit, the staff are really friendly too...

Smart casual is the dress code. You don't have to dress up to the nines. Saying that no sandals (men only), and def, no trainers.

Enjoy !!!!

I like the Dome as it's very relaxed and minimum stake on roulette is only 1TL

Tried most of them and the Platinum Pasha in Nicosia is the best. Brand new hotel building next to McDonalds/BigMac place. Fantastic free food, free drinks, singers dancers magicians dusky Brazillian Samba dancers with 2 bikinis between 3 of them...........

Dont go to Oscars...friend of ours were told not to come back because they did not loose enough and they were not welcome.

Mitsi, if you go to Jasmine Court, take your passport. You need to join if you want the free food.

Change 10tl, get a bowl of 100 tokens. You only get the free drinks and cigs if you're sat at a machine or gaming table. Don't wear anything heavy, there's no aircon.

Newlad, it was a Lapta casino, Deniz Plaza I think, where the shooting was. The night manager at Rocks is my neighbour, great guy and a good translator.

Sorry forgot to add there was also a shooting by Jasmie recently and the death of a supposed mafia boss in lapta recently was casino related. You may want to take your friends elsewhere

If you like friendly and cosy the Las Vegas at Kervansarray is very good, food is excellent and staff are very pleasant, better machines than Merit. It is a hotel aswell. Definitely reccomend it.

Re msg 16.

Lilli, could you elucidate please?

Are you referring to the Grand Ruby shootings around two years ago? If so, the murders did take place in that casino but were part of a "war" between Ankara and Antalya mobsters - mobsters who shouldn't have been able to get licenses anyhow (how they did - under CTP - is naturally open to question). The perpetrators had their licenses revoked instantly and are now serving long prison sentences

I haven't heard of any other killings related to casinos recently.

Hi Gordon No I didnt say killings just shootings. To my knowledge the murder in Lapta was related to the shooting and killing at The Ruby. Sorry if it didnt come across this way.

Thanks all of you and will probably try the Rocks as Nicosia a bit far for our m8's with no transport. Maybe visit that one later unless all are prepared to get taxis. Looking forward to it. Dome sounds ok too so we'll put it to the vote.

Hi Lilli,

The death of a man in Lapta was in-fighting amongst Guzelyurt muppets - who are feeling the pinch after a rather intensive police crack-down in the last 18 months. Certainly not casino-related.

Minertor I recently paid my first visit to Jasmine Court Casino and wasn't asked to join, or for my passport & simply went to the seated area, after we'd played the slots for a while, to get a table then helped ourselves to food - all free, but was not impressed and we ended going out for a meal !! Will not be going back.

We tried the Zodiac next to the Pia Bella, just out of pure curiosity. An interesting evening, although I wish we had gone earlier. We meant to go back, but haven't. One of our friends was TC and he said they have changed the law and restricted entrance for TCs.
