My 3 month old puppy came in tonight, soaking wet, very distressed... someone had maybe thrown him in a pool, luckily I taught him to swim a couple of weeks ago, he would not have gone in on his own, what the hell is the matter with people?

One would think, any dog if it falls into water will go through the motions of swimming instinctively - never known a dog that didn't/couldn't swim........if its not done much swimming it may tire easily but no dog would drown, if it wasn't too far from a place it can get out to to land.......

Why the assumption it was thrown into a pool? It is three months old for heavens sake - like a toddler - inquisitive.....to think the worst of everyone is not a healthy way to go through life..........

Having lost track of one dog, though hopefully it will still be found - one also has to ask, how come this three month pup was so far out of your sight, you think someone threw it in a pool? Where were you?

.Re MSG 7 that's what I thought until I saw it with my own eyes. In the olden days when we had a pool our collie would run around while anyone was swimming (good exercise and claw trimming) but a pain if you wanted to swim when hot. One of our other dogs stood on a corner and over balanced him straight in. I would say the way he turned his shoulder it was deliberate but hey ho that's how it looked. Collie just sank to the bottom no leg movement at all, whether he would of recovered from the shock of being 'pushed' in we will never know as we fished him out. We have now taken him in the sea and after many times of climbing on to me he can swim but does not actually enjoy it.

Dont let your dog swim in the sea,the salt in the water is very dangerous to dogs, especially if they are long coated.

Msg 14 - either illustrate, or expect your comment to be treated with the contempt it deserves........

Your puerile valedictory cry say everything about you, nothing about me - and nothing about how the three month pup was alone, and you assume, being slung into someone's pool by a stranger.........I am not the only person who questioned something of the situation that YOU have stated........

If so inarticulate at more than half century old, to say "desperate to find him, but don't go out much... " expecting that to be understood to mean you go out all the time, and "someone had maybe thrown him in a pool" meant thrown into your pool - entirely changing the scenario (you don't have a gate? or watch your animals)? is asking for mind reading - impossible. The Bob thread; my msg 57 was compassionate and msg 79 in light of what you wrote, understandable. It isn't as though anyone has pointed out to say Bob "went off for a run, as he always does, about 9pm every night and never came back, usually back in ten minutes, disappeared into thin air!" shows you to be irresponsible in the extreme. YOU let him out every night? unforgiveable; expecting him to ignore any bitch on heat, never to run in front of a car or get in a dog fight. If he caused a fatal accident YOU would be 100% responsible; if a forum member's family was injured, or killed because of your laissez faire attitude

their tone would change completely. The same as if they tread in your animals faeces and walk it into their homes. Nor did I comment on your 'losing' him (poetic licence, let out intentionally) on 17th May, but no posters or information in English/Turkish distributed until 26th June because you "didn't know how", as time is of the essence, within days, a mature person would find someone who DID know how, and ask them to do so, on your behalf. Roomy was right to start a thread about so many "lost" dogs with "irresponsible" owners (as Msg 27 points out).

Instead of projecting on to me, I would put all your energies into keeping your animals safe by accompanying them when they are off your property, and fortifying your property, to keep both the public and them, safe from harm.

If you teach an animal to swim, then you make it more likely that it will do so when you are not present... How do you teach a dog to know when it's safe to swim? You can't.

Most animals can swim if needs be.....Migratory species especially ....But generally , only those who seek pray in water choose to................If your not a predatory fish the water is dangerous...........be careful...
