planning a trip to karpaz next week.anyone recommend a good place to eat in either Mehmetcik,Yenierenkoy or Dipkarpaz. We went to the Karpaz five years ago but just drove through the villages to the beach. This time we want to spend more time looking round. Is the new road from Girne finished?

| Hi, I am just back after 6 days in the Karpaz. Firstly there are TWO new roads open. Both a via Catalkoy and Karakum through Alagadi. When you get to the T junction turn LEFT. After a while you will be greeted by a choice to go to BAFRA or Yeni Erenkoy. The Yeni Erenkoy route is currently marked as being closed to traffic, but we started at the other end where the signs were in Turkish only. Ooops silly me!! It is without doubt the most magnificent scenery I have seen in a long time with only three houses and a few 'holiday homes' scattered along the route. No building sites or piles of plastic bottles (yet!). The other route to Bafra comes out at Cayirova and is sexcellent for anyone wanting to go there rather than further up the Karpaz. DEKS restaurant Agia Trisias just beyond Yeni Erenkoy is excellent. The new place in the marina is also top notch and surprisingly reasonably priced. Balci Plaza provides very good accomodation and food combined with their own beach. DD

I recommend beautifully cooked fresh fish at 'Oasis'. Idyllic setting on the shady terrace overlooking the sea, white sandy beach and ancient ruins!

Good suggestions above. By the way DEKS on a Friday night do a Fish and Chip night, thought I would mention it as I often see references to "who does the best fish and chips in north Cyprus" comments on the forum from the Kyrenia contingent , well DEKS is fantastic and great value, you have to book though and get there for around 7.30pm. If you are exploring down in Bafra where the new hotels are being built then a small place called Zephyr is well worth trying. It is located off of the new dual carriageway from Kaya Artemis Hotel to Noahs Ark and has great views of the sea and Bafra beach. Enjoy your trip and yes the new road is open and is a joy to drive on.

| There is also Damla Restaurant at the edge of the village, where Pakize and Bülent offer a freshly cooked excellent Cypriot and Turkish menu. We take all our friends there and so far evereybody has loved it. Its a good idea to phone before hand. Tel 05338756299 They also run the Tractor Safari, which is a great day out, taking you into the mountains and serve their delicious lunch near a beach where you can also swim, see goats and donkeys and many birds. | Balci is the best. Go through Yenierenkoy, past the new Marina and Deks and it is sign posted. When you turn left follow the private road to the roundabout. The restaurant is on the left. He also has a fab beach there but go the the restaurant first to tell him you are there. When on the beach go to the left side as its more sandy. Take your snorkling gear. We go at lunch time, spend the day on the beach and eat at sunset watching the sun go down. |

You can stay over at Balci, so instead of just trying one, you can try a few on the way there and again the next day on your way back. You will have a great time.

Message 15 Anyone ever been to that massive chinese restaurant on the road to Dipkarpaz. Never seen anyone eating there - bit of a mystery really. I don't think it is a chinese restaurant, just that the building looks a bit oriental!! Also no sign of any Thai restaurants either, or chinese or decent indian. Scope for a good takeaway shop on the Famagusta side I think!

The 'Chinese' place is open. Not sure what nationality they are but definitely oriental. Maybe Malasyan? Had Coffee there on the way back from Yenierenköy Market, friendly people but yes it seems always empty, even when we passed there the other weekend evening.

Had such a fantastic meal at the 'Damla Restaurant' last night. My wife booked ahead and ordered stuffed Aubergines (Karniyarik) for all of us (we invited 2 German friends, who have a house here and have been holidaying several times a year in Northern Cyprus for the last 18 years). We had an amazing array of meze, most of them never been tasted by us or our friends, all freshly made that day, a fabulous mixed salad (I don't usually eat much salad but this was perfect) and all followed by Coffee and most delicous homemade Baklava, mmmmhhhh..... Our friends said this was the best meal they have had in Cyprus!! It's just a little restaurant and not much to look at, but you don't notice it with food like that!!!!! We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep.

Balci, Deks and Damla are all good. Damla is charming and has authentically Turkish cuisine. During our stay this summer in the Karpaz we were extremely disappointed that Nitovikla Garden Hotel restaurant in Kumyali seemed to have lost the plot. It was so good once with interesting food. Manolyam at the Arch Houses wasn't up to its usual high standard. Vine Tree Terrace seems to have folded. Our favourite reliable restaurant is Alev Kayali across the little bay from Deks and on the Yenierinkoy side of St Teresa's hotel. We think it better than the expensive fish restaurants around Kyrenia though Alev Kayali do other things than fish. You can check out the superb range of fresh fish in the fridge. Its popular with both local expats and Turkish Cypriots. The service is friendly and attentive. Of course at night you don't get to see the sea breaking below the balcony but you can hear that it is there. It is the one restaurant we confidently returned to in our six weeks st

Yes sadly Nitovikla has lost the plot as did the Vine. Ate recently at the Manolyam was not too bad but not as good as in past years. I would recommend Hemmingways at the new marina and the Damla which is excellent

Hasn't anyone eaten at Alev Kayali? We really rate it and the people eating there when we visited a couple of times last month were obviously regulars. It has a terrific professional staff and great food. And they are frank about line caught and farmed fish which is rare... It's sort of tucked away and right up against St Teresas so it is easy to miss. We are not the only fans...

I'm sorry to hear you missed the Damla. It's good to call beforehand. There is a number on a small orange board - but also here is Pakize's no. as she speaks English. 05338756299 They will always come straight away as they live close. Bülent usually is there, but maybe he went to get some more beer. You get some more interesting food if you phone first. Börek is something they always serve and is the best. Had a sweet one with honey and cream....so amazing.
