If I'm borrowing a friend's car and the car is insured for any driver, does anyone know if I'm allowed to drive to the South side with it? Has anyone else done this? Any advice much appreciated! Thanks

Your name has to be on the 3rd party insurance you buy at the border and I think it has to be put on by the owner of the vehicle. Maybe someone else on here can be more up to date with the rules.

I agree with msg 2 - your UK driving licence will have to be produced to be added. You may get away with producing a previous insurance note to renew and adding your name but sod's law is that the owner will need to be there. It doesn't cost any extra to have an additional driver named, in my experience.

Correct, and last time we crossed ove we had to produce the MOT (emission test) document also. Geoff Famagusta City. P.S. for some reason you cannot take a TC hire car south, but they can bring GC hire cars north. One rule for one and another for the other!!??

mess 3. When I added my wife to the insurance it cost 10 Euros, but then every renewal there was no extra cost for her being on it.

msg #4 unless things have changed recently, you can take a north hire car to the south, but you need a letter from the hire company. Friends of ours have done this many times, unless as I say, things have changed in the past few months.

When renewing insurance you can add anyone at no extra charge but if you add whilst your policy is valid there is a charge of 10 Euros.

Thanks for the info everyone! The insurance is fully comp and covers 'any driver' so I'm ok to drive the car around on our side - what I really needed to know, is if I'm allowed to drive the car over the border as I'm not the owner. Thanks again

Hi J aqui, I took a car across when I was not the owner with no problems. Best way is to turn up and try. Worse case is they will turn you around and you can then spen a nice day in Nicosia. Howard
