I am aware that some of us met before at a restaurant like Guidos but as far as I know we never had a picnic. We locals are very fond of picnics and great conversation take place whilst cooking the shish kebab. A picnic with no shish kebab is unthinkable.

I think we should plan ahead say for May, July and September each time at different locations. Izzet should supply the beer

Any suggestions please?

The cafe at Horseshoe Bay has a picnic area and they provide large BBQs for self use. There is a small charge per person but I am sure it could be negotiated. There is plenty of parking and it is right by the sea.

Just a suggestion!

Also the people from my street always have a picnic together, usually in April before the summer ban on country side BBQs takes effect. We take our individual BBQs, tables, chairs, rugs etc. up to the old monastery above Karsiyaka village. There is a beautiful grassy area up there with magnificent views and we never see another person all day.

Sinya restaurant would be good to have a picnic at, they have a large open area. Is out east near Kucek Erenkoy, on the main Esentepe-Tatlisu road.

We can organise one in Famagusta, one nearer to Girne and the third one in the middle like "Alevkayasi", a very popular place with the locals.

since the idea came from me, probably I will fix the three venues and the dates and worst come to worst I will be pickniking with my wife and if she refuses to come maybe I will find a lover

Maybe the second choice is more fun!!!!!

Clarissa,

No way. If I die she will get only one sixth of my estate and if the number of offsprings are more than five even a smaller share. Now she has all. So I think I am safe or am I? I must admit I have never mastered how a lady's mind works. Anyway I have no lover :(

Carrying on from the last two posts.

With current world events i have started to question my mortality. The other day i shouted to my partner who was busy in the kitchen, ' When i die, i am going to leave everything to you love '

She shouted back ' You already do, you lazy ba****d.

Charming. !!!!!

Alsancak,

I get the point but at least the light humour keeps it at the top and thus more people read it. Of course provided its done in moderation like everything else.

To bring this back on topic, if you want to arrange one West side then I have the perfect location providing Alsancak Belediyesi get it completed in time. It is the Old Milos bar/restaurant that is being refurbished and will have a massive BBQ area and an outside bar. If you or anyone else is interested then I can keep you informed on a regular basis as to the progress.

Will we be able to find locations that are not covered in rubbish, or with smashed tables and benches? Has anyone else had a look at the picnic site on Kantara? It will make you feel ill.

There is a beautiful picnic site between the 'night clubs' and Kayalar. joint in the local spirit of things, come and eat your food, drink your drinks then leave as much litter and filth as you can.

Thats the way to integrate with the locals.

Ismet,

The Karsiyaka Beach Bar (sorry don't know the exact name), next to Guzelyali Beach Bar, supply tables and a picnic area for "Mangal".

They also have a bar serving hot and cold drinks and also have toliet facilities.

Another thread taken over by moaning Brits. Good news for them (and us): your ordeal in TRNC is over when you book a flight to paradise asap - undoubtedly the UK will welcome you back. Just the kind of people they need over there. Hmm.

...and a Dutch joke:

I was walking home last night when I noticed an old drunk staggering along the road. He passed a woman who was walking a young child. "Lady", said the drunk, "that's the ugliest kid I've ever seen. Damn, that is one ugly child!." As the drunk wandered off, the lady burst into tears. Just then, a mailman came to her rescue. "What's the matter, madam?" he asked. "I've just been horribly insulted" she sobbed. "There there," said the mailman, reaching into his pocket. "Dry your eyes with this tissue, and here's a banana for the chimp"

I suggest the rude ones book on Italian cruise liner instead.

By the looks of it we shall have the first picnic in Kyrenia area. It will have tables, toilets and bbq places. Most likely we will bring our own charcoal, food etc. and the place will earn some money from the sale of drinks. The main truble with such an arrangement is that somebody will always bring his own drinks. Can this be a problem or the place owner will contend with whatever he can sell?.

I think Alsanjak is the candidate to arrange the first venue and date. Once its all known, we can all let him know how many are coming.

the second picnic should take place in Famagusta District. the place in mind is Bedi's place with lots of tables but no guarantee on availability because its a popular place. We can think about that and the alternatives nearer the time, maybe two months after the first one.

I've been reading the post on Cyprus 44 for a while but have never become a member until now. The main reason is because there are too many negative or sad members trashing threads.

Old Milos.

I was there yesterday. The weather was terrible, but the workers from Alsancak Belly were very busy trying hard to make something that could one day, very soon, be a very popular spot for walkers, drivers and even picnickers. (Is picnicker a real word?).

It would be a great venue for all year whatever the weather.

I hope they put professionals in to run it. Otherwise, one possible problem: if the Belly run it, they will have smoking indoors all year!

This is a great idea. I have had many a swan-a-long , Sing-a-long 44 BBQs and lunches.

I remember the very first 44 lunch too. Its always nice to get to know others better and have a laugh.

I will bring the black bin bags and help tidy up the mess. I always carry a few where ever we go.

I look forward to meeting both you and Simba's again, and I so hope I get the chance to meet rowlo

Free beer!? Let us know the dates so that we can organise flights over! Can the 1600 members bring their parners?

If so, that's 3200 people at least 3 bottles each, so I make it - 9,600 bottles of Efes....right?

I hope everyone will have to prove their identity ( NO PSEUDONYMS) !

It would be nice to meet those folk who have genuine names and faces and who contribute to the forum with fun and laughter. Each person should wear their "posting-tag-name" so that they will be recognized. Izzet,

That is great. Funny enough I don't drink any beer, so I will bring my own water

I will get the name tags, so everybody should write their first name and the member name so that we get to know specially the trouble makers.

OK folkes, its on, only a matter of time and place. The first one around Girne because most members live over there and promise the second one in Famagusta.

I resent the illiterate tag (especially from someone who seemingly struggles with normal punctuation).

I will take the rest under advice

Yes,Hansis my friend, and a very intelligent nice gentleman he is.

Perhaps you can learn to post a bit more positively.

Hey,if I am a toilet attendant,I'll take none of your crap.

I look forward to meeting the really nice people at the BBQ's .

The badges should not only show first name and board name but they should state whether the member is a TRNC positive person or a TRNC negative person, I guess a bit like blood groups.

TRNC+ or TRNC-.

I like to steer clear of negative people as I am sure a lot of other members will want to do also.

Excellent idea!

What about Alagadi Beach Bar?

They have lots of space, good parking, Loos etc. and right on the 'free' beach!

I'm sure they would be happy to provide their facilities, including kids play area, as well as all the 'chips' kids young and old would want to go with your shish kebabs!

If it was June or Sept, we will bring our gas BBQ and a couple of Charcoal 'trays'!

(I'm beginning to have dreams of a full 'Spit Roast Lamb' ! :=))

Why not?

Bogaz picnic place is a common place for locals and it might be easier for people coming from famagusta and it is also in the middle for both east/west kyrenia.

Saturday or Sunday?

I think Sunday would be more convenient for more people.

Any suggestions on how to keep the beer cold?

I think it's wise to get kegs.

Bogaz is in the middle of West and South Girne??

Does Izzet have a TRNC map?........Or does he mean the scenic site alongside the Nicosia Motorway?

Re 82

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the Bogaz village in Kyrenia.

The picnic area is just opposite of the road that climbs up to St Hilarion.

Great idea, Ismet. Will be over in July so hope to attend that one and sure my young friend will too,

wherever it is! Am not bothered about beer, just so long as there's water, good company and bit music (but no too loud) Could bring some spicey chicken if desired.

only you could turn this into "an us and them" picnic.

TRNC + and TRNC - How ridiculous! Sounds like school playground talk!

Rather than disliking people for saying things YOU don't wish to hear, which appears to be anything negative regardless of whether its factual or not, why not listen to what they are saying and make your opinion based on the accuracy of the subject matter?

You might find that some are TRNC+ and TRNC - because they are able to view things from a more balanced perspective.

Bradus

Chill out.

Oh by the way I was also going to suggest adding likes and dislikes with regards to discussion topics to the badges but I am starting to realize that we will all end up with sandwich boards instead of of badges.

Oh by the way not only am I TRNC+ but I am also football-

ok the first picnic will be at Bogaz picnic area but we must wait a little for the weather to warm up a little and give at least a weeks notice. I am not very familiar with the Bogaz picnic area but I think those who have portable chairs and tables should bring them.

It is obvious from the posts above that such picnics on a regular basis may attract quite a few members and can become a routine affair, say every two months. Weather permitting it may take place first Sunday of May, July and September.

Gerry,

Of course all guests are welcome providing they buy drinks to all the moderators

We have plenty of time yet to plan in detail and hopefully somebody will prepare "instructions" how to get there from Girne or Nicosia.

I would come as I would very much like to meet some of the people who post on here. Did you note the word 'some'?

I think it is a lovely idea to have a bbq with members as long as there are no cliff edges (long drops) around the areas proposed.

According to my good friend Google: http://christianity.about.com/od/easter/qt/easter2012.htm

April 8 - Easter Sunday (Western Christianity - Roman Catholic, Anglican Communion, Protestant Churches, etc.)

So let the date be Sunday 8th April. I hope there is no rain on that day.

As I was passing today I dropped into the Bogaz picnic site to have a look.

You need to know that the tables and benches provided are immovable and are very widely spaced (20 to 30 metres apart - even more) and relying on those will not be conducive to a group atmosphere. There is one cluster of 6 or 7 that are about 8 metres apart just as you enter the site - but there is no guarantee that this cluster will be available on your chosen day.

I therefore suggest that everybody plan to take tables/chairs/rugs/ BBQ trays if you want to be together as a group or that somebody volunteer and go early and "bag" the prime cluster of tables - maybe if there is a German tourist planning to go!
