Called at Girne tax office yesterday to renew our driving licences Very helpful young lady assisited us to fill out the forms which are printed in Turkish. Today we need to return with copies of the photograph page from our passports, copies of the page with our residency stamp and two photographs. Both over 60 but they still require the residency stamp for the licence application. Just curious. When folk hop over the border to get extra days to remain in TRNC without applying for temporary residency, does it also give an extension for the time allowed to drive on your British licence?

roblyn, We did ours in January, just filled in the form before we went, gave them the photographs paid our money and that was it. No mention of passport photocopies. The form itself asks for passport number. Oh well I guess it was our lucky day and not yours. Chris

Guess you're right Chris, lucky you. Did you also go to the Girne tax office? If we only had strict government guidelines to adhere to we'd know we stand and it would save all this backwards and forwards and the confusion that goes with it. Your passport no is on your old licence so it wasn't that they wanted it was definitely copies of the photograph page and residency stamp in your passport. Returned today with all they asked for. Definitely the luck of the draw who you get to attend to you.Yesterday pleasant helpful young woman. Today stood at the window for at least five minutes before the young woman even raised her head and acknowledged we were there. In the mist of dealing with our application she stopped what she was doing and attended to someone else. The only words she spoke were 176.20 lira. Never mind it's in the system now and apart from having to go along and collect it,won't have to return for two years

Ex-Pats can have either 2 or 3 years as required - but not 1, 5 or 10 which are ony for nationals.

I'm afraid so. It was a 5 year I renewed In December but they would only give me 2 or 3 years. More racism!
