TRNC driving licence renewal

Do we wait until our current TRNC driving licences have expired before we renew them? Or can we apply to renew before the expiry date and if so how soon before?

Usually go to renew mine a couple of days before it expires, wouldn't wait until the expiration date as you may get fined if pulled over

I went a couple of weeks before mine was due, they wont take them much earlier - BUT it took 5 weeks to process (Jan/Feb this year) which seemed excessive, and I only got 3 years! You are given a receipt and this can be shown if you ARE pulled over!! (If they can read it!)

Make sure you take photo-copies of the residency page of your passport with you

Photocopy of residency page in passport,photocopy of photopage in passport plus two photographs

That was the requirement last week plus of course the cash.They don't accept cards.

My car tax was due 4 weeks before my licence expired (14/12/2011 so fairly recent) but they would not let me apply for it then - they said 2 weeks before is the earliest. In the 6 weeks I waited (a lot of strikes at the time) I was stopped twice at roadside checks and the police were perfectly happy with the receipt I was given when I applied.

mine is out by 18 days so expecting fine ah well !!!
