We are coming over to the island early morning 4th july and returning afternoon 17th july. Anyone fancy the pick up/drop off job. If so, how much?

Poochielover, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The price quoted is each way.

I was charged £35 each way from Ercan to Alsancak.

40 quid from Larnaca is a bargain.

dulinderm i agree. We are going to hire a car for our stay and would have been convenient to just drive it ourselves, but its not possible to bring hire cars over the border,...... is it?

Yes it is possible. Do a search on previous threads. Many GC rental companies allow people to bring their cars North.

However you will only have third Party Insurance this side & it may be risky & difficult if you were involved in an accident, in the North, in a GC hire car. Having said that, many do take this chance.

Poochie,

Scruff is correct about being able to bring a car over, but it is risky. Remember in an accident, the foreigner is always wrong.

Have you considered using the Green bus service from Larnaca to Nicosia and then walking over to another bus or Dolmus. It can use up time but at €6 per person it can be cheap for singletons or couples.

You will find details on other threads.

scruff and dublinderm, Thanks for the info, we will look into both the options. Is there not a transfer coach that runs from Larnaca to Kyrenia for the charter airlines? as its looking like this is going to be a charter flight. The ticket code is ECA and reading the other threads here tonight, I can only hope that is not CTA!.

poochie, if you are flying into Larnaca then it wont be CTA, they only fly into the North. They are the National carrier.

Have a look at this reply from a South side car hire company. Do remember that you would need insurance at the border for the North side.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding car hire.

You may take the car from the South to Northern Cyprus but you must return it to the South. If you breakdown it is not possible for us to exchange the car in Northern Cyprus, in the south it is not a problem. If there is an accident in the south you pay the excess and the insurance covers everything else. Our insurance does not cover you in Northern Cyprus. If you travel to the north it is your responsibility to return the car to us in the condition it was provided. You will be required to buy car insurance at the border which is open 24/7. To cross the border you will require your passport and the car rental agreement contract. There are different insurance providers at the border and each has their own closing time ranging from 22.00 to 00.00. The insurance provided can be third party or full

cont

The insurance provided can be third party or fully comprehensive the cost starts from 20 euros for 3 days third party up to 60 euros for 1 month fully comprehensive. Information regarding the cover provided for the north must be requested from the insurance company issuing the cover policy. You may use the following 3 border points to pay for insurance and pass 24/7: Ayios Demotios in Nicosia, Pergamos (Pyla) in Larnaca and Vvisoules Strovilia in Famagusta.

Hi again,

ECA is the three letter code for Eurocypria the charter division of Cyprus Airways. They are in almost as much trouble as CTA.
